CDC Report: 35,369 Vehicle Accident Deaths, 505 Gun Accident Deaths

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) final report on death statistics for 2013 shows there were 35,369 deaths from motor vehicle accidents versus 505 deaths from the accidental discharge of firearms.

That is not a typo—35,369 versus 505. Americans are 70 times more likely to die in a vehicle accident than by the accidental discharge of a firearm.

Yet Michael Bloomberg, Moms Demand Action, and Everytown for Gun Safety have not uttered a peep about Ford, Dodge, or Toyota control. They are utterly consumed with a new gun control push framed around accidental firearm deaths.

My wife asked why I have so many firearms? I try to buy as many as I can so they can’t be used to hurt anybody.

Recommendation to ATF N E. Form E-Z for purchasing firearms

Do you currently legally own a firearm? Yes NO

If yes buy another. If no fill out the rest of the form.

At the same time, though, don't think that "progressives" aren't seeking to control motor vehicles. Much of the effort is in the name of safety.

You can beat me. and you can starve me. and you can kill me. But don’t take my sports car :)
Guns are the boogie man of the modern world.
They are like nukes were in the 60’s.
“if you see a gun, hide under your desk, and wait” :)
Most frequent items used to attack me in the cab were knife first, bat, fists, and once I saw a gun in a duffel bag. Since it was 4am and he wanted me to take him to bad part o town to courthouse that was closed, once I saw the gun sticking out of the bag I stopped at a red light and ran lol.

My brother retired from the state patrol. He affirms your statements.

Even where the accident was the clear fault of a sober driver, if any one of the vehicles had alcohol invoolved, in anyway, it is classified as an “alcohol related” accident.

It is kind of like “gun violence”, a phrase designed to defeat debate. No matter if it suicide, accident, justifiable, or murder, it all becomes the unutterably horrible “gun violence”.

Here's an example from an article that has a related thread here:

De Blasio jaywalks as he preaches road safety

The new mayor has made pedestrian safety a key objective of his administration. On Tuesday, he laid out a sweeping “Vision Zero” initiative to end traffic deaths that includes lowering the city speed limit to 25 mph.

New York isn't the only city with "Vision Zero."

I guess that means smart cars are their equivalents of “smart” guns.

That’s 72 times higher. Put another way, it’s 7200 percent higher. But those numbers hardly show the true picture.

Put in proper perspective, it’s 7,200,000 percentage points higher.

Well...Golly..this is scairy!
Its time we had drivers register before they are allowed to purchase a car..their mental condition, any arrest records of any kind, and a 5 day waiting period before you can pick up your new car.

Then if it is found out, you have recently been prescribed Valium or an antidepressant, your car should be confiscated, or at least kept locked in a safe place with a relative. A city wide map should also be made public of WHERE all these cars are kept!

Of course, if someone buys a car illegally, well...you know...
“BAN CARS, AND THEN ONLY CRIMINALS WILL HAVE CARS!”

Their argument is that vehicles are necessary, and that guns are not, and that the vehicular deaths are an unfortunate by-product of modern society, whereas, "Who really needs a gun?"

They forget that deaths resulting from private gun ownership are an unfortunate by-product of our 1st Amendment rights as free citizens.

Interesting. There are 253,639,390 motor vehicles in the United States, and over 300,000,000 firearms.

I guess you missed the time when you could handwrite a note, "Please ship me one of your advertised GI 1911s," enclose cash from your lawn mowing jobs, and expect delivery at your door in a couple weeks. Different times.

Pardon me for asking the rude question, but since when was the CDC interested in deaths from causes that are clearly not diseases??
