Black Culture Is Not the Problem
NY Times ^ | 5/1/2015

Posted on 05/01/2015 3:59:38 PM PDT by Altura Ct.

IN the wake of the Michael Brown shooting and subsequent unrest in Ferguson, Mo., commentators noted the absence of black representatives among Ferguson’s elected officials and its police leadership. A Department of Justice report highlighted how Ferguson’s mostly white City Council and its courts spurred on explicitly racist policing, in part to harvest fines from black residents.

Then came Baltimore. The death of Freddie Gray, like those of Eric Garner, John Crawford III, Rekia Boyd and so many other unarmed African-Americans, at first seemed to fit the all-too-familiar template — white cops, black suspect, black corpse.

But unlike New York, Chicago and other cities with white leaders, Baltimore has a black mayor, a black police commissioner and a majority-black City Council. Yet the city still has one of the most stained records of police brutality in recent years.

In the absence of a perceptible “white power structure,” the discussion around Baltimore has quickly turned to one about the failings of black culture. This confuses even those who sympathize with black hardship. When people took to the streets and destroyed property, most observers did not see an understandable social response to apparent state inaction. They saw, in the words of Baltimore’s mayor, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, “thugs,” or in the words of President Obama, “criminals and thugs.”

To be fair, the mayor later expressed regret, and both she and the president have tried to show empathy for the dispossessed. But they are also fighting myths about degenerate black culture. Condemning “criminals” and “thugs” seems to get them away from beliefs about broad black inferiority.

Yet when black people of influence make these arguments, it prevents us from questioning Baltimore the way we questioned Ferguson.

They are right, it is not Black culture that is the problem, it is the LACK of Black culture.

Black culture mostly died out due to the “great Society”

Reads to me like the Slimes sees a need to set people straight, who may be starting to believe what their eyes see. Can’t have that.

Liberals cry racism if we bring up inconvenient truths about the gang culture, about the baby mama culture, about ghetto culture. So then the discussion ends and we are just not allowed to discuss certain aspects of these issues.

Would “black culture” have been recognized as such 100 years ago?

The NY Times is the problem!
The problem is the liberal's destruction of black character. Whether by malevolence or by misguided compassion, it is the white liberals and black race hustlers who keep the black community on the urban plantation. The elites who act like drug pushers for the government crack. It is the government replacing fathers making them surplus, fornication for fun and prizes and abortion that decimate the character of a people. Peddling hate and envy is easy, inspiring the hard work to lift oneself out of dire circumstances to aspire to be more that is difficult. Too bad the political class is lazy!

The commie LBJ is surely at fault. But the problem with these types began long before that. Read about the Tulsa (Greenwood) Race Riots of 1921. It was started by a negro radical, J.B. Stradford, who learned his leftist, anti-white hatred while in Canada. The trigger for the May 1921 spree of murder and destruction was a sexual assault on a white 17-year orphan, mild-mannered Sarah Page, by a black feral, "Diamond Dick" Rowland.

It is white people's problem. They did not “Soul Search” enough. Sure. White people. Not generations of the family breaking down, rejecting education, not requiring accountability and responsibility from black people. It is white people not ‘soul searching’ enough.

Freddie Gray was a criminal. Laws were made prohibiting the kinds of things he did (mostly narcotics). The police are charged with enforcing those laws. The system kept returning Freddie Gray back to the streets. I am not excusing or condoning whatever police actions that lead to his death, but if we are supposed to understand the 'black experience' in excusing their behavior, can we not at least look at the 'police experience', the frustration that must exist when you arrest a known lawbreaker that is continually returned to the streets. Sooner or later, a lenient legal system will fan police abuse.
