Baltimore Sun ^ | 1 May 2015 | Pamela Wood Scott Dance

The six Baltimore police officers involved in the arrest of Freddie Gray – who died last month after being injured in police custody – have been charged criminally, State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby announced Friday.

Mosby's announcement on the steps of the War Memorial Building was greeted with cheers and applause. Mosby said she told Gray's family that "no one is above the law and I would pursue justice upon their behalf."

Desmond Taylor, 29, shouted in jubilee in front of the War Memorial Building.

Mosby: Freddie Gray's death a homicide, officers charged Investigation and medical examiner reports say Freddie Gray's death a homicide. Baltimore City State's Attorney Marilyn J. Mosby will file charges against all 6 officers involved in the arrest. (Baltimore Sun) "I did not expect this, but I prayed for it," he said. "This day means that your actions bring consequences in Baltimore City."

Word traveled quickly of the charges against the officers. In West Baltimore, cars honked their horns. A man hanging out of a truck window pumped his fists and yelled; "Justice! Justice! Justice!"

At the corner where Gray was arrested, 53-year-old Willie Rooks held his hands up in peace signs and screamed, "Justice!"

Reacting to news of the charges, President Barack Obama called it "absolutely vital that the truth come out.

Bump, for reference.

Thanks for the list.

Interesting to hear a woman in there - next, I expect “Alicia” to be black. Maybe not, but it’s 50/50.

Next, maybe we’ll find out the races. Per obit below, I guess Goodson is black, but I wouldn’t bet on it for the rest of them.

This would be more a case of negligence, not "homicide!,"

Those terms are not exclusive. At least here in California involuntary manslaughter includes gross and indifferent negligence. For example if someone fails to restrain their pitbulls and they kill someone, the owner can be charged with manslaughter.

I saw a cop show the other week withTom Selleck where this happened. The cop and the perp were struggling on the second or third floor, the punk saw the open window, ran and jumped out of it. Then screamed that the cop threw him out.

*What will happen if the most or all of the six officers are Black? Does it matter to the rioters?*

nope. We saw the answer last night with Fox Reporter Dave Kinchen in Philly. Note the title of the video. Freddie Gray is just another name to be exploited by militants on the march to anarchy:

I’ve been in the van. I’m a productive, tax paying citizen who contributes to society, but I’ve certainly had my share of scrapes with the law when I was younger. I hope I’m not going out on a limb by saying I would not have deserved to have my neck snapped in the back of a police van because the cops wanted to bash me around back there (when I could not guard my face) just for s-—s and giggles. Thankfully they did not do that, but it is certainly a known technique that police departments have paid millions in settlements for people that have been paralyzed and killed by this.

As far as I know, no. Not if they police are not already interacting with you or have probably cause to do so. I believe there is case precedent for this, but I could be wrong. Avoiding the police is not probable cause, in and of itself, nor should it be.

If you read the various news reports carefully it becomes clear that it wasn’t an exposed bolt. Modern paddy wagons don’t have exposed bolts. What they do have is bolt heads that are flush with the surrounding surfaces. They won’t jab into you, but if your head hits a surface where a bolt head happens to be, it will leave a tell-tale six sided mark. His injuries were caused by impact against a flat surface in the van. This is evidenced by the bolt mark(s) that apparently are on him.

Nope. The requirement for prisoners to be belted in was part of the Baltimore PD General Orders, since at least 1997.

There was a Sgt on TV that said that the 1997 Policy was not a requirement and left the decision up to the transporting/arresting Officer.

The new Policy that came out a week or so ago required the Officer to secure the prisoner in the Van. And as it was in an e-mail format only to certain people, was not widely circulated.

-— Homicide” simply means the death of a person. It doesn’t mean murder or manslaughter. -—

It means murder or manslaughter in Merriam’s and FindLaw.

The PA was quoting from the autopsy report when she said 'Homicide'. Which is a legal term and in the St of WA defined as:
The killing of a human being by the act, procurement, or omission of another, death occurring at any time, and is either (1) murder, (2) homicide by abuse, (3) manslaughter, (4) excusable homicide, or (5) justifiable homicide.

As you see, it does not always mean that that death was a criminal act or unjustified. As any criminal put to death by the State is also a Homicide.

As for the other prisoner backtracking on his story? So be it. What can't be backtracked on is the video at the time of the arrest when Mr. Grey was standing on the back of the Van on his own. The existence of a broken spine at the neck would have prevented such a thing. Yes the video shows the Officers dragging Mr. Grey. So what? I've dragged many a ahole to my patrol car that didn't want to walk after I arrested them. That didn't mean their back was broke. That just meant they were assholes.
The request by Mr. Grey that he couldn't breath and needed an 'inhaler' as pointed out by the PA and witnesses that were there. Mr. Grey did not have his inhaler on him at the time. Police do not carry inhalers with them. And if they did it would be against the law for them to give to him as it is a prescribed medicine. Mr. Grey would have to wait till someone brought his to the jail or got treated at a hospital.
Again not calling for medical assistance was a glaring mistake that the Officer's made. But in no way did Mr. Grey's lack of breath and sore leg lead to a broken neck. Tossing himself around in the Van or something else did. But it was not the arresting Officers.

Called it!

Alicia is black.

Goodson is black.

And so is one other policeman.

Half of these officers are black.

What the hell do these asshole thugs say now?

Is there a coroner ruling on cause of death? I haven't seen one yet.

It should complete the story and give us facts we don't know yet.

No, I think 3 white. Neither the looks nor the names of any imply Latino to me. Amazingly, NONE of them at all has a “special” or “fancy” name.

I think the only thing was “homicide”, which is what some are arguing about here.

I'll wait for further information to come out before jumping to high
on the bandwagon. It seems logical that if he was pressed that hard against
the wall there would be marks left on his throat. Maybe they were charged on
information we don't know yet.

“No, I think 3 white.”

Yep, originally I saw a report that at least one was black and the rest hadn’t been spoken about at all. Turns out it 3 and 3, and 5 men, 1 woman.

Pasts—that other prisoner is now walking his statements back and says he is afraid of what may happen to him because of an inaccurate report.

One other thing about this second passenger. The one that has given TV interviews and backtracked on his statements is 22

The prisoner quoted in the WaPo article is 38.

So which one was it? Plus the 22 year old says he was arrested for smoking a cigarette (WTF?). But the WaPo guy was arrested for violating a protective order. That's a long ways from smoking a cigarette ;/

... “all the while saying they “want the truth to come out”. No matter how this turns out, the rioters/race pimps/et al., like most on the Left, are not concerned with Truth (unless, and only if, the findings agree with what they think the truth should be)....”

They aren't looking for truth...they're looking for vindication. Most have limited understanding of the words they're using and simply regurgitating what they hear others say.....whenever the people on the street are interviewed you can tell quite easily, once a journalist asks for specifics, they struggle to define why or what they mean or want.....because in their thinking these demonstrations and the violence has got them what they wanted.....they've really already convicted them, which is evident in their conversations.
