Jeb Bush is a leader, not to be confused with Ted Cruz’s soapbox complaining

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush apparently feels comfortable enough with his standing in the field of Republican presidential hopefuls that he was willing to venture into the very turbulent waters of immigration reform on Wednesday. He recognizes what no one else in his party seems to see: that it’s not a solution to constantly snipe at proponents of immigration reform and shoot down their proposals.

If you want to lead this country, you must have a plan of action, particularly as it concerns what to do with the 11 million undocumented migrants currently in this country. Bush told an audience in Houston Wednesday that there should be a way for them to regularize their status and stay.

“We have the ability because of immigration to be an emerging country again, to be full of optimism, to believe that our future is brighter than our present. But we have to fix a broken immigration system and do it in short order,” he told members of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference.

Yes, it means tighter borders, he said, but it also means that 11 million people should have an alternative where they “pay a fine, where they work, where they do what they want to do, which is come out from the shadows, work, provide for their families, not receive government assistance, and over a period of time be able to receive earned legal status.”

That’s pretty bold language from a GOP presidential hopeful who knows the most active voters in the primaries will come from the hard right and will not take kindly to tolerance of what they call “amnesty.”

But precious few Republicans have been willing to stand up to the hard right and ask: Okay, then, what’s your solution to the 11 million question? If you won’t tolerate any discussion of reform

“The Jebster must not get out much. I can find at least 10 illegals in less than 20 minutes.”

You can even find them in attendance at State of the Union speeches!

Just remember boys and girls, to the MSM, a Republican “leads” if he takes liberal positions on issues...

So the Dallas Morning News and The Houston Chronicle are trying to outdo each other to see which raf can be the most left-wing.

Such a shame that in a state as conservative as Texas is, our two largest newpapers read like something written by
an Austin field hippie. Even Lady Bird Johnson’s Austin American-Statesman isn’t as leftist as the Chron and DMN.

Texas deserves better.

I still don’t get why Bush and Rubio are leading in the polls over Cruz, it’s a real head scratcher.

A nation without borders is not a nation! Folks coming here from elsewhere need to go through the same process my great, great grandfather, Ernst Bachert, did!!

I appreciate your great-grandfather's path but I suspect there are millions of foreigners who would love to have those immigration requirements today. Our laws are considerably more restrictive now but the demand is huge. Hence, lots of illegal immigrants bypassing even the requirements your GGF had to satisfy.

Jeb may be a leader, but he’d better not turn around, because there is no one behind him.

If it were 1854, he wouldn’t have arrived at Ellis Island. Would have been so he would have arrived at the piers around South Street. Other than that your point is, uh, on point.

And failing miserably. Their editorial board just plain sucks, and Robberson sucks the chrome off a tail pipe.
