Baltimore prosecutor: Probable cause to file criminal charges in Gray’s death

State’s Attorney Marilyn J. Mosby said Friday she has probable cause to file criminal charges in the much publicized death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray who died while in police custody.

Six officers, including a lieutenant and a sergeant, have been suspended after the incident. Gray suffered a spinal injury and died after riding in a police transport van that made several stops.

On Thursday, Baltimore’s police officials said they turned over their initial report to prosecutors — a day earlier than expected.

OK I will say it was below the waist shot .

There are far too many corrupt people involved here and this was all about appeasement and no wonder the Mayor said she did not want anyone form the outside investigating.

This investigation should be done way away from Baltimore.
This Mayor and Prosecutor is for a witch hunt.

If the cops are found guilty of lesser charges, the city will riot. If the cops are told to stand down next time I BET THEY IGNORE THOSE ORDERS.

Don’t bet your freedom any cop has even read that. Not their job. it is the judge’s job, not the street cop.

Also, that is a state definition, not a city of Baltimore definition. Cities and counties in Md can and do have more restrictive laws than the state concerning weapons.

Not quite end of story. I believe it has been reported that this fellow passenger has recanted that story.

Why he would have told the reporter in the first place, and why he would later recant... who can know?

Well a number of Christian leaders have WARNED a few days ago that there will be “civil disobendence”coming. I have seen the number of recent postings over the last few days.

Even the jury will be calling for the death penalty before they have heard one word.
The Mayor stated she did not want outsiders and look at what we have. THE PROSECUTOR who took thousands of dollars off Grays lawyer and look who she is married to .

This should be done in another city far away from this witch hunt.

I agree that the mayor and DA have handled this situation horribly, from the response to the rioting to the potential appearance of impropriety in the investigation, and everywhere in between. But, as others have mentioned, it’s important to keep that stuff separate from the initial underlying event (Gray’s death), and, based on what is known about Gray’s death, I think that there is probable cause to support charges against the officers. Whether it’s enough to convict will depend on what other evidence comes to light.

This is a National Action Network trial.

I think there is probably enough for negligence or even manslaughter but murder is over the top.

“He was also handcuffed and leg shackled, so had no ability to use his hands/legs to brace himself. I’m not sure about murder, but manslaughter is a no brainer. Perhaps the murder charge is because they did not get him medical help when he was obviously in distress.”

If you look at the list of charges, the first one is “depraved heard murder”.. I believe that is also called “depraved indifference” in other places

I see this nation coming apart.

I have friends (a white family) who used to be farmers in Zimbabwe. They live in Zambia now after the black government seized their farms as part of the program to transfer wealth and power from whites to blacks. The stories are pretty ugly... and after many years of black ownership, their farms (buildings and equipment too) still sit idle and going to waste.

The exact same thinking that went on there is being shouted louder and louder here. We're heading down that path, and it's going to get ugly.

Well they arrested him for carrying an illegal knife. Only, according to the DA, the knife was not, in fact, illegal.

I’m one of them.

Jim Rob in his tagline, talks of “obedience to God, not a criminal POTUS, or it’s administration. There are many sheepish Christians who will willingly lose their freedoms, but will draw the line with their Christianity.

I too think that murder is over the top but manslaughter would be a more fitting charge.

This should be done in another place away from Baltimore with an independent investigation because there is no way the cops will get justice as they are already convicted in the city.

Imagine what the jury will be like. Death penalty before they are hearing a word.

Depraved Heart Murder. I had to look that one up. It looks like the legal term relates to "a murder that is the result of an act which is dangerous to others and shows that the perpetrator has a depraved mind and no regard for human life NOTE: Depraved-heart murder is usually considered second- or third-degree murder.". If there was no death, it would be "reckless endangerment".

To think this guy wasn’t strapped down due to simple negligence would require the “willful suspension of disbelief”.

On the other hand, he could have given them such a rough time that trying to buckle him in wasn't worth the trouble, and they decided they'd simply take their chances on this one occasion.

I still don't understand on what grounds they arrested him. Perhaps because he was behaving erratically?
