Ted Cruz knocks Mitt Romney: Ted Cruz in the news

Today's Ted Cruz news: In his speech Wednesday to the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Cruz took aim at 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney and his infamous "47 percent" quote. Romney, who of course went on to lose the general election, equated President Barack Obama's supporters with 47 percent of the country who "believe that they are victims" and "entitled" to government assistance.

"Where he got clobbered was 47 percent," Cruz said Wednesday. "I think Romney is a good man who had a hard campaign, but I cannot think of a statement in all of politics that I disagree with more strongly." Read more from CNN.

And for Throwback Thursday, see these similar remarks from Cruz in 2013, when he was the keynote speaker at the Cuyahoga County GOP's Lincoln Day dinner.

Cruz, by the way, is staffing up in Iowa, home of the first caucuses. He has signed up Matt Schultz, the former Iowa secretary of state, to chair his campaign there. He also announced a leadership team. Read more from the Des Moines Register.

"If we must have an enemy at the head of Government, let it be one whom we can oppose, and for whom we are not responsible, who will not involve our party in the disgrace of his foolish and bad measures." - Alexander Hamilton

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party over to the traitors in the battle just ended. We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support. Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates wouldn’t make any sense at all." -- President Ronald Reagan

"A thing moderately good is not so good as it ought to be. Moderation in temper is always a virtue; but moderation in principle is always a vice." - Thomas Paine 1792

"It does not take a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men." - Samuel Adams

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams

"I think Romney is a good man who had a hard campaign, but I cannot think of a statement in all of politics that I disagree with more strongly."

Well, Ted, we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one. Out of all the stuff the Romulan said, this is probably the only thing I actually agreed with. Romulan was right on this, and the Conservative base knows it. Stay on message, Ted. You're getting distracted, and it won't benefit you to do so.

To this day I still believe Romney put his foot on the brake after the 1st debate for what ever reason. In the 1st one he made obama look like the man child we all know him to be......After that it was like he slacked off in the rest of the debates, it was really obvious to me.

“I think Republicans are and should be the party of the 47%”.

Agree with Sen. Cruz completely— We should explain to these folks how socialism is keeping them in servitude.

This conservative DOES NOT agree with your assessment.

It was a stupid thing for Romney to say in the midst of a campaign for the very reasons that Ted states.

Read the CNN article link in the article to find out WHY Ted stated what he did.

The difference between the two debates was like night and day. Something happened. Something was ‘explained’ to Romney.

“Something was ‘explained’ to Romney.”

Yeah, that has crossed my mind, probably one of those things we’ll never know unfortunatly.

Maybe, but I believe Cruz or Walker will be the nominee because they don’t play by the liberal rules. Romney was from Mass. and a liberal, that’s why he acted the way he did!

While absolutely true, you must say something else or nothing at all about politically deadly topics like this.

Mitt did worse than tell the truth: He told an inconvenient and politically deadly truth.

Romney was told to throw the election. Probably by his own party which is just another wing of the Socialist Democrats.

yep, I noticed the same thing.

Romney showed Obama to be the empty suit he is, then something happened and Romney took a dive in the next two.

I agree with dware’s assessment. The optics of that statement blew up in Mitt’s face but it was (and still is) the truth - there is a segment of society that isn’t going to vote for a pubbie, no matter what.

Even if Romney or Cruz offered the same shameless pandering that wins those votes (hypothetical since I know that neither one would) they would still pull the lever for the “D”.

Mittens crushed the 1st debate because he was behind after Obama spent 10’s of millions if not 100’s of millions on negative adds during the summer. Consultants must have told him after that debate he actually turned the tide and to turn off the mean Mitt. Problem there is there’s one day to count votes - election day.

Romney was unable to ever explain the comment, no one has ever been able to explain, can you since you agree with it supposedly?

I think what was explained to Romney was that Obama would bring down the full force of the IRS, FBI, DHS and other alphabet assets on Romney and his children if he didn’t back off. And Dingy Harry backed him up on it.

Please don't try to group that total ammoral loser Romney with Cruz.

Romney has no character. He supports abortion and the Gay Agenda and has or is supporting every single left-wing policy position posited by the left today.

He has proven throughout his political career to be a complete and utter liar.
