audi King Salman bin Abdulaziz has sacked his younger half-brother as crown prince and appointed his nephew, Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Nayef, as the new heir apparent, state television said.

Al Jazeera's Mohamed Vall, reporting from Jizan in the country's south, said the reshuffle was announced by royal decree via state television early on Wednesday.

Political earthquake'

Khalil Jahshan, the executive director for the Arab Centre of Washington from Fairfax, Virginia, said that the reshuffle constitutes a "political earthquake of the greatest magnitude".

"The Saudi Arabia we knew a few hours ago is no longer," Jahshan told Al Jazeera, adding: "These are serious changes that will have repercussions not only domestically but also internationally.

"This is a very decisive answer by King Salman to the doubts that many experts have expressed since he came into power with regards to his health, his decisiveness and his control over political matters in the kingdom. And this is his unequivocal answer."

King Salman also appointed his son, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as deputy crown prince, and replaced veteran foreign minister Prince Saud al-Faisal with the kingdom's Washington ambassador Adel al-Jubeir.

The Wahab sect, the Saudi royal family, and the Saudi government are at the core of jihad!

There is no worse government on the face of the Earth quite as bad as the House of Saud. Except what will follow it.

I worked in the KSA when Reagan was President, then when Bush was President, and when Clinton took office. The disrespect for Clinton was palpable. One can only imaging what they think of the The Mombasa MF!

As you know, the Saudis often seem to know quite a lot about our politics and love to discuss them !

The Yemen crisis has certainly given the king a chance to see who gives better advice, reasons the issues better, and leads better on the military front.

What's wrong with the current jihadist government?

Every time I see a KSA prince or diplomat on TV...they remind me of an Arab version of the kid from deliverance...

This will greatly confuse Obama - who to bow to at the next meeting?

The question is, what provoked this? Somebody was unhappy about something important.

They should know a lot about our politics. They pay a lot for it.

AH, the buggeries known as the public schools of Merrie Olde England! When the chaps in the upper forms need a boy from the lower to run an errand, all they have to do is shout:

FAG!

....and an obedient youngster will appear.

One does wonder to how many and to which of many foreign leaders Obama must answer when that call ..."FAG!" .... is made.

“related to the huge terror arrests in the kingdom”

Are you suggesting the Saudi Government might be involved in terror?

Oh noes! Say it ain’t so....

Interesting isn’t it? ....thinking of the conversation on another thread if or not high end Saud Gov. officials could or not have been aware of 9/11.......I thought maybe on down the line there could have been a rogue Saud leader involved but doubtful higher ups.

But then here we are with this shakeup at the higher levels...Hmmm-mmm.
