Terrible.
The fire in East Baltimore. Dozens of people out here crying and in disbelief: "This is our church!" pic.twitter.com/2DTf1m7sia

CNN reports the senior center was newly built, part of Baltimore’s Southern Baptist church.
That massive fire in Baltimore confirmed by CNN reporter as a Southern Baptist Church's new senior center. Now, in ruins.

Pastor Hickman: burning building was to be 60-unit affordable housing for seniors. "It hurts my heart," he says. pic.twitter.com/jYXuMMDtBx

Update: After I originally posted this, there was some skepticism on Twitter as to whether the fire was actually related to rioting. Local CBS affiliate and AP say yes, but others say no:
AP: quotes source saying massive East Baltimore fire IS connected to violence earlier today

I don't know what happened. But worth noting this WaPo report on the Baltimore fire.http://t.co/zw5OBbJSON pic.twitter.com/cF0Dcq98QQ

I’ll keep this updated as it’s sorted out. Either way, I’m sure there will be a Kickstarter for this church soon.
Gov. Larry Hogan has activated the Maryland National Guard, and reporters are already seeing them on the streets, suggesting Hogan and the Guard may have been admirably on the ball prepping for this eventuality, ready when the Baltimore mayor’s call came in:
About 1,500 National Guardsmen and -women are currently on the streets in Baltimore.
— Ashley Southall (@assouthall) April 28, 2015
There will no doubt be recriminations about the timing of the calling in of the Guard, so Hogan is at the ready with answers:
Hogan says he signed order to push out guard "less than 30 seconds" after it was requested by B'more mayor. Asked why the belated response.

The mayor of Baltimore, after walking back her horrible or horribly worded sentiment that the city was giving “space” to those who “wish to destroy,” came out more forcefully today and issued a curfew… for tomorrow:
“What we see tonight that is going on in our city is very disturbing,” Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake told reporters. “Too many people have spent generations building up this city for it to be destroyed by thugs who — in a very senseless way — are trying to tear down what so many have fought for.”
She announced that the city will impose a mandatory curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily, effective for one week starting Tuesday. The mayor also promised to hold those responsible for the violence accountable.
More than two dozen people have already been arrested, according to Col. Darryl D. DeSousa with the Baltimore Police Department.
Meanwhile, one Baltimore mom (or other relative) delivered the symbolic slap pretty much everyone wanted to deliver unto punk looters and rioters. She caught a young man who’s presumably her son out in the madding crowds and got real mad. I know there are the sensitive among us who might object to this form of discipline, but I’m betting this kid is off the streets for the time being, and embarrassed on national TV in the process. Nicely done, Mom. The world was uncharacteristically united on Twitter in applauding her…forcefulness.
That awkward moment your mom catches you rioting #baltimore #baltimoreriots #prayforthiskid

She wasn’t the only one. Freddie Gray’s family also had words for looters and rioters:
"This is not justice. This is just people finding a way to steal stuff," Carron Morgan, #FreddieGray's cousin, just told me.

The Rev. Jamal Bryant emphasized that the family had asked even peaceful protesters to hold off until tomorrow, to give the funeral some space. He called the young people involved “inexcuseable…out of control.”
There are a lot of Black people in B-more who are *incensed* about this.
(The burning building was apparently going to be a Senior center. I think it was a Southern Baptist congregation.)

Racism? Tell us more.
Let’s build new cities in Liberia and offer them $1,250 a month to go there. It’d be worth it.
Comment 18 is clear enough to be offensive.
The Nation of Islam brokered a “peace” between the Bloods and the Crips. But which of these three would me MOST likely to torch a Christian church? Hmmmm.../s
**CNN reports the senior center was newly built, part of Baltimores Southern Baptist church.**
This is terrible. Prayers for the people of that congregation who just built the new Senior Center.
That is not racism...that is where we are in this country today. It is time that we deal with that. It has been mounting with the racism of Obama, Holder and others. Call a spade a spade...reluctance to do that digs a deeper hole.
Yes; and it was offensive in a cowardly way. (If they wanted to use the word, why didn’t they just spell it out?)
This is not 1968. There are a lot of people in Baltimore who are going to be hurt by this, and they will be coming down on some of their own people.
Again: Baltimore is not Ferguson. These kids bit off more than they can chew.

Please read your own posts before you accuse.
Maryland “Freak State” DANG!
Time for blacks to have their own country with it’s own laws and police. Give them Illinois.
That usually means you can’t explain.
The US certainly does have It’s problems, from the bellicose demands of the 1-2 % weird homos to the 10+or- blacks plus the ?% of resource moochers. The conditions makes a truly worthwhile citizen wonder how the US came to this stage. It is not the scenario my brother died for in WWII or for which I served in WWII.
For me, this whole problem is about racism. And, hiding the racism is the problem. In fact, blacks with sub Saharan ancestry are genetically violent people. It is because of their ancestry and their genetics. That is racism and it is, sadly, unavoidable. These riots could happen wherever there are concentrations of poorly socialized persons of Sub Saharan descent.
Burning a Christian church facility, eh?
Will Loretta Lynch charge them with a hate crime? Or do they need some space?
The federal and state governments run by Democrats were MORE UPSET over Indiana’s law protecting religion than they are about the thugs of Baltimore.
Bull. They’re not any more “genetically violent” than a barbarian caucasian or Asian or European or Native American.
The family structure has disintegrated, they have been told government is their daddy, and they’ve been told their existence is due to a random collision of molecules, and that there are no absolutes.
We have turned our back on God—individually and as a nation.
The senseless, unrighteous violence we see is what happens when the Creator is shunned.
Moralism isn’t the answer, and neither is hedonism. The answer is Christ alone.
The mayor is useless. Where do I donate to help that church rebuild?
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
It wont be long before federal money, OUR money, will be granted to rebuild what the idiots destroy.
“The mayor should immediately resign.”
She reminds me of Charles Moose during the D.C. Sniper ordeal, who got his position by virtue of his color, not skills or intellect. Both are/were an embarrassment.
Thanks; I just turned on the news this morning, and the first thing they showed was a flatbed carting away a burnt car.
Stupid.
You just need to read up on this a little. Blacks commit violent crimes about five times more than whites. This is not the result of the lack of Christ, or bad family conditions. Be scientific. Treat the question as an open one without predisposing the solution. Start by not accepting the adage that all men are created equal. There are differences among us. Some good, some not so good. Its God’s will that it be so.
