Jeremy Renner — a real-life action dad
New York Post ^ | April 26, 2015 | Mark Tapson

As the helplessly smitten father of two little girls (with a third on the way), I have a soft spot for stories about manly dads who freely confess to being wrapped around their daughter’s little finger.

So I was touched when Fox News reported that tough guy action star Jeremy Renner recently gushed about his 2-year-old Ava Berlin in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres.

Ava is the daughter of Renner, 44, and Canadian model Sonni Pacheco, who married in early 2014 almost a year after Ava’s birth. Renner was grateful that he married late in life, after some career success, so he could afford to concentrate on family.

Fatherhood “really kind of changed my perspective on a lot of things,” he told DeGeneres. “It’s kind of screwed my career in a lot of ways, because I don’t really care about it so much because I care about her so much.”

To be clear, his career is still very active, but he has a different motivation now. In an interview with Capitol File magazine, Renner said: “The only thing I think about when I’m not with my baby is, ‘How do I get to my baby?’ I need to get to her, and I’m very miserable when I don’t see her. I really love being a father.

“I still work, probably even more. It used to be -SNIP-

Sounds like he has his values sorted-out correctly.

I wish my kids were that tiny again.

Ex-wife Sonni Pacheco is 20 years his junior (24 and 44)... and she is five-foot-eight. Jeremy is five-foot-ten (supposedly).

They divorced in late 2014, after 10 months. The marriage was apparently already in trouble after the first month, when they started sleeping separately. He tried to make it work anyway, for Ava. Child support is $13,000/mo. No spousal support.

Sorry - someone has to pour a bucket of cold water on this interview.

Renner and his wife filed for divorce after less than a year of marriage.

They are currently involved in a vicious court battle over money and custody of Renner’s daughter.

I really like Renner as an actor, by the way. I think his work in the Jason Bourne sequel and in the Avenger film series is excellent.

Sonni met Jeremy at age 20 (when he was 40), got pregnant at 21, gave birth at 22, married at 23, divorced at 24.

Joint physical custody, by the way.

What will age 25 hold for her? Then there is 26, etc......

There are pictures of him with Tom Cruise and they appear to be the same height. Cruise is listed as 5’7.

I felt like Renner was trying to do some overt jury influencing with his comments.

However, I did some more research, and apparently Renner and the ex-wife settled on a 50-50 custody split a few weeks ago.

What set me off was something TMZ reported like 2-3 months ago.

Renner made the ex-wife sign a pre-nuptial for zero money, even though she was pregnant at the time.

Now, there may be a reasonable explanation for that, but, on its face, asking your pregnant girlfriend to sign a zero dollar pre-nup seems about as low as a man go on the character scale.

Not sure where you are getting your information from, but the daughter was born a year before they married, and the former Mrs. Renner was the one who filed for divorce. Sounds like a textbook marriage scam to me: Get pregnant, appeal to the man's sense of decency to wed you, divorce him, try to take as much of his money as possible.

I saw that interview out of pure luck ... (Sadly, my taste in background t.vruns more to courtroom stuff, LOL!)

I will always like Jeremy Renner after The Hurt Locker.

I get my information from the Tabloids, where else?

Obviously, you have followed this more closely than I have.

As I understand it, Renner and the ex-wife became a couple more than 4 years ago, when he was filming Mission Impossible.

As I understand it, they broke up when she was pregnant, then reconciled, she signed a zero dollar pre-nup, and they got married.

Since he's 20 years older than she is, and since he's worked in the movie business for 20 years, I'm a little skeptical that he's the “victim” in this relationship gone bad.

But if you say so, well, OK.

Actually, mine and the author’s interest had nothing to do with the tactless behavior of the parents concerning their marriage. No doubt Renner should not have impregnated this woman, and she should not have agreed to marry anyone who demanded a prenup. The issue for me here has to do with this father’s relationship with the daughter, and his willingness to speak on the subject. I suspect, or hope anyway, that plenty of divorced guys (I am not, btw) will read this article and reevaluate their own performance as fathers. That is all.

Had I known that Renner and the ex-wife settled all their disputes several weeks ago, I would not have posted.

I thought the disputes were still active, still being litigated, and that Renner was using the interview to influence any future jury pool.

If Renner is a good guy and a good father, that's good news.
