Paul urges GOP to be the "Party of Civil Rights"
Washington Examiner ^ | April 27, 2015 | Sean Higgins

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., urged his fellow Republicans Saturday to become the "party of civil rights" by embracing limits on the courts and law enforcement. It was both good policy and good politics, he argued, and would fill a vacancy created by Democrats turning away from these issues.

Paul, a 2016 presidential hopeful, made the case for this during a speech to the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition, a major gathering of socially-conservative voters in the key early primary state. He began by noting that the GOP had lost Iowa in the last two presidential elections and said it needs to do something different to reach out to non-conservatives.

"You have to run somebody who says, 'Not only are we going to be the party of the Second Amendment, but we are going to be the party of the Fourth Amendment. We are going to be the party that respects your privacy. We are going to be the party that says the government cannot, without a warrant, without a judge's signature ... look at your phone records,'" Paul said.

I agree but as long as too many people think Civil Rights means Civil Giveaways without Civil Responsibilities, it won't fly.

It always HAS been the party of civil rights (having been founded by Abolitionists and all). But the voters he is after want a party of racial grievance and score-settling.

That is the freakin’ problem SA. It is NOT being used correctly; it is being raped by B. Hussein Obama, the DemocRATS and RINOs in the GOP. As I said earlier, I’m a Cruz guy, but hell, I’m glad someone is speaking out on how our Constitutional rights are being trampled. Thus far, the only one taking a real stand for the Constitution is Ted Cruz. I wish all the candidates would join the chorus.

Well, some scores NEED to be settled. I’m thinking we need to settle the score for Ministers who are threatened with jail time if they don’t perform a same-sex wedding, bakers who have convictions against doing a wedding cake for a gay reception and pizza restaurant owners, in Indiana, who believe they have the right to refuse service in their establishment. HELL YEAH...... Some scores need to be settled. Too bad you have a problem with that.

Rand,

Go chase yourself. Only an out-of-touch imbecile would say such a thing.

He’s trying to be one of the ‘cool’ kids.

And if you wouldn’t make statements like that people wouldn’t know just how ignorant you are. Our Constitutional rights are being trampled to hell under this Administration. Read some of my other Posts in this thread. Just wait until your Grandson is walking home from his “After School Job” and is stopped by a cop and made to give him his cell phone so he could check it to make sure he was not out running drug deals. So, you don’t have a problem with people’s rights being infringed upon; what a shame; joethedrummer. I won’t take anymore of your time; go play your drums.

... and I thought only the lefty sites were full of haters...

Way to go, dude.

Good luck championing MORE ‘civil rights’... It doesn’t mean what you think it means these days.

I've got a better idea.

How about making it the "Party of the Constitution"?

The only ones who have their Civil Rights violated these days are White Christians. That’s the only people one can discriminate against and get away with it. Maybe it’s our turn.
