They have shut down the assembly line because they have run out of enough orders to keep it running.

If the demand was there then why weren't the orders for aircraft?

Boeing’s final run apparently includes a number of unsold C-17s, so there are a few new ones available. Boeing intends to support them for many years.

They seem to be expensive for what they are. Anyone know what they compete against?
