Females In Ranger School Hack Off Hair To Maintain Equality
Daily Caller ^ | 4/25/15 | Jonah Bennett

To assuage fears that different standards will apply to men and women in Ranger School, women have been required to sport short haircuts, as well.

“The standard for the Ranger course is for students to have the shortest haircut authorized by AR 670-1,” Col. William Butler, deputy commandant of the U.S. Army Infantry School, told Army Times.

The idea is to maintain strict standards of hygiene. Short hair makes it much easier to spot ticks. Women are not allowed to have hair extending more than one inch from the scalp. If there are any bangs, they may not fall below the eyebrows.

Nineteen women were brought into the two-month long Ranger School on Monday for the first time ever, in an attempt to answer the larger question of whether combat occupations can be opened up to women in the military. As of Thursday, just 8 of 19 women have managed to survive the Ranger Assessment Phase (RAP) and will continue on in the course. For the first day of RAP, students needed to complete 49 push-ups in two minutes, a five-mile run in 40 minutes, and six strict chin-ups, among other things.

On Thursday, the last day, students had to hike for 12-miles with a 35-pound pack, a rifle, and a vest.

During the planning process, officials have taken extra steps to ensure the training runs smoothly, even updating the packing list requirements to include certain items for the women, such as sports bras, tampons, and a female urinary diversion device, which allows women to urinate while standing.

According to the Pentagon, all jobs have to be opened to women by January, or else the military needs to request waivers from Congress to keep certain jobs closed.

Defense Secretary Ashton Carter was noncommittal this week when asked about his predictions about performance, answering that “maybe” all jobs will be opened. However, Carter seemed to think that female performance will be sufficient enough to open up most jobs.

Agreed on all points.
We had trials out in north Norway for the Mountain and Arctic warfare courses and a woman was assigned to see how the unit and she could work.

I am talking form experience now.

She could not carry the 90 pound back pack , she had half the men chasing her and the other half resented her because she was not pitching in with all the other guys. Men wanted to carry her equipment thinking when it was over they would be in bed with her and she did lead tem on to get her way.

It was her time of the year and being out above the treeline there I no cover so we all had to turn away in minus freezing temps, She kept us waiting every day for the bathroom and her time of the month.

After two days she could not handle it what so ever and thought the other guys would do her work.
Well I told the guys she caries her own weight because in a blizzard you can’t see too well and if one goes off a cliff then it would be their equipment as everyone is responsible for their stuff.

When the course finished I wrote a report stating all of this and it went to the higher ups.

To equate athletes to military combat unit is shocking and for the record I am not old nor did I live in in 1967.

“...You are correct that I have not been in combat. I have all the respect in the world from those who have...”

No, your comments have shown you have no respect whatsoever to the words or opinions of veterans, combat or otherwise.

You have shown you have no respect for any opinion or words that do not agree with yours...

You are dismissed.....

Women are still women regardless of year , read my post about how I was in charge of a unit with a trial of a woman assigned to us.

For the record I am not old and did not live in 1965 so lets cut the crap of you guys are old and you need to face the modern world.

Women doing athletes is no where near what they have to go through in a combat unit carrying 100 pound , under fire and then facing harsh conditions and then having to carry another guy on top of that weight.

is there men who would fail the test, yes there is , but it is not about men wanting change to have more men . This is about some women who want to get in there and have their standards lowered or social justice which is something you are advocating or it appears so.

And when was the last time you worked closely with female athletes? Back in softball in highschool? In 1948?

Every. Damn. Day. High school and collegiate-level female athletes. Got a game tonight, in fact. So it appears that I know way more about this than you do, jackwagon. That's what you get for assuming.

The times have changed. If they can meet the standards, they should serve. Just like men.

And genetics haven't. Women still have much weaker knees than men, based totally on their physiology. If you'd had any actual training yourself, you'd know that women get 5X as many knee injuries playing sports than men do (my wife was a Div I basketball player whose career ended in her junior year because of one), with greater severity. Women and men are BUILT differently. It's got nothing to do with biases or feelings or social constructions. YOU prove your own ignorance every time you talk on this matter.

You really need to update your exposure. Go watch women play national championship rugby. They would kick not only your ass, but most of your friends and their kids.

Funny, but last time I got on the ice with a national tournament-winning women's ice hockey team, the 20-something girls could stick-handle really well. And our 40-something guys could just lean on them and push them off the puck... every time. I wasn't good enough in my prime to play elite level hockey (much less college or pro)... but I had a hat-trick that night...

You're just wrong. When you fight reality, reality always wins...

There is nothing like an arrogant old man.

Insults are always the refuge of those who can't make an argument. I have seen many who have ignored 2000 years of collective human experience in favor or their own great intellect and ego. I call them fools.

It's possible, but methinks 6 to 10 ounces of hair won't make a difference in graduation rates (IF).

We were mostly in Tromso and a horrible place called Finse with no trees, no cover, just snow, blizzards and mountains and I can honestly say when your snow hole collapses in minus 30 air temps then it sucks .

Going through the ice with keeping hold of your equipment and weapon also takes your breath away the first time you hit that freezing water.

Of all the things that could start CWII, drafting American wives, sisters, daughters and nieces is pretty high on the list.

A sunday night game? In high school or college?

Tell me another story.

In any event you fail to get the point and I am tired of arguing it.

Didn’t say that was my only contact with female athletes, but you just don’t get it. What’s your C.V. look like in sports? Or do you just know what you watch on t.v.?

Besides, the girls in the military aren’t “playing” against me. They’re going up against the Cleveland Cavaliers. And Brittny Griner wouldn’t make the worst team in the NBA...

I operate a sports photography business that works with 25 colleges, ranging from DIII to DI. I work for a major NBA affiliate. I work for Lacrosse magazine and other regional sports networks.

I am up to my hips with college athletes every single day.

Yeah, but you don’t know sh*t from Shinola about military Special Operations...

THAT is what this thread is about.

Why don’t you just move on over to ESPN and talk about what you DO know?

My God, you guys just don’t let anything go. The conversation was not about combat. It was not about any of the stuff you bring up.

The conversation was about the generational differences in gender assumptions.

This particular point that you were responding to, was about the previous poster saying that he was around high end collegiate athletes and their ability to perform at parity with men. And he stated that he was around these athletes all of the time. And he stated that he was around these people in an adult rec league. And he asked me what my experience is. I told him.

And then you jump in with a stupid comment.

So, I was responding to HIM, not you. Perhaps, if you are such a special operator you could figure out the situation.

I am done here. You guys are all about keeping things the old way. Change is bad. I get it. We should be glad that you guys are not running things anymore. Because no one could possibly come up with an idea that might be slightly better or different.

You can continue living in the ‘60s. You all did such a fine job back then.

People are now conditioned because it has become a cliche that in each action flick that there have to be a chick that can beat up guys twice her size.
