An adventuresome Google executive who once dated TV star Sophia Bush met a harrowing death on Mount Everest in a a series of valanches triggered by Saturday’s giant earthquake.

Dan Fredinburg, of San Francisco, was the only American confirmed by Saturday night to have died in the tragedy.

He died from head injuries when the avalanche slammed into his base camp, according to family members and a statement from Jagged Globe, the mountaineering company that organized his summit attempt.

“Today I, and so many of my loved ones, lost an incredible friend,” said Bush, who starred from 2003 to 2012 in The CW network show “One Tree Hill.”

Feinberg also helped start Save the Ice, an organization dedicated to raising awareness about global warming “through adventurous campaigns and events around the world,” according to its website.

Spell check, used without proof reading, produces extraordinary oddities because it only determines if a word is properly spelled, not if it’s the right word in context. Thus, if a writer wants to use “precedent” but spells it as “president”, spell check will not catch that error.

Given his position at Google and probable net worth I doubt the cost of the expedition mattered one whit to him.

Isn’t it to early in the year to climb Everest?

It is this year.

You hurl melodrama like Streisand.

Some news story yesterday cited someone as saying, "The avalanche is a good thing, because there are many corpses and much garbage on Everest". I guess you can fault the gods for not sending out a memo.

Meantime, Mr. Save the Ice would probably consider a sacrifice to Everest's hygiene a worthy one. Cycle of life and all that.

Pointing these things out is not "celebrating death". Using them as devices to highlight the real global menace of the Google franchise is not celebrating death. Even wryly suggesting that the world would be a better place without Google's executives is merely stating fact, not "celebrating death."

Bad timing - this hits just when everybody is there for the climbing season.

Having taught Old Testament to the sixth graders in my parish for the past 17 years, one lesson continues unabated: for all of the unconditional love that God has for us, he does not like to be mocked.

The world is a dangerous place, and events like this demonstrate that fact.

I'll be heading out for my (9-10 mile) walk in a bit, and will ponder this latest tragedy, in between songs on my iPod. We've become immune to thousands of babies being aborted every day, but this story should be good for filler for several news cycles.

I have trekked in Nepal numerous times and am a Conservative in every way. Your post is nonsensical.

Agreed. People such as those on this thread give Conservatives a bad name.

As for this thread... Celebrating death is ugly.

You have a big task in front of you.
