Women Soldiers Make History in First Gender-Integrated Ranger School

A group of women soldiers made history this week after earning a place in the first gender-integrated Ranger Course Assessment at Fort Benning in Georgia.

The U.S. Army Ranger School at Fort Benning opened Monday to a class of 19 women and 380 men, according to Stars and Stripes. Over the last four months, 20 women had secured a spot in the course assessment after passing one of four sessions of gender-integrated Ranger Training Assessment Courses (RTAC). One female soldier chose to withdraw.

Only eight women and 184 men successfully completed the first four days of Ranger School, after a series of physically grueling tests, officials told the Army Times on Thursday.

Sixteen women passed the initial fitness tests on Monday, in which soldiers must complete at least 49 pushups, 59 sit ups, six chin-ups and a timed five-mile run.

What are you suppose to do when something bleeds for a week but won’t die?

Zombies are scary stuff...

Did the women do the same pushups, situps and chinups, or were those special versions just for them?

Even with the extra help they are undoubtedly getting, I don’t think any of them will pass.

Chin ups? Don’t they normally do pull ups at Ranger School?

Eight out of the twenty women dropped. That's actually a lower percentage than that of the men. There's a part of me that hopes at least one of these women makes it, just to prove that they CAN with all the same requirements the men have. Then there can be no excuse for lowering the standards to accommodate future female entrants.

But there's another part of me hoping they'll all crash and burn and leave the fighting to men, where it belongs.

I wonder how many of the old women (some of them NEVER in the military themselves) who pushed for the young women to join the rangers could pass these tests themselves ???

Even 200 of the men could not keep up the pace etc...

When more of those 8 females drop out will there be an outcry to lower the standards ???

I have it on good authority that women attending Ranger School will need to pack a female urinary diversion device, or FUDD. Look it up. It allows a female to urinate standing up.

As long as women can pass the same rigorous tests the men have traditionally passed, they should be able to participate.

If anything at all needs to be changed to accommodate them, they should be out.

I remain unconvinced that women should be in this program at all, but this would be my bottom line.

In Los Angeles police recruits (the men) had been traditionally required to scale a wall. I don’t know the exact height. When women were allowed to join the force, they complained so the wall test was eliminated, or changed so they could pass the testing.

There are levels of competence that must be maintained to get the best candidates. If those levels of competence are reduced, then the best candidates will be joined by a lot of sub-par candidates.

I don’t agree with this in police agencies or the military, and especially the military.

We need fully capable men and women, and no dumbed down requirements should be tolerated.

I think some will. The Army will utterly demand it. They will wash out a few to show it was “real”, then the others will pass.
All their commanders and fellow students will describe them as “superb”.

Pass results[48.3 percent for men and 42.1 percent for women]. These groomed women still have a higher fail rate than the rest of the men. And, yes, Ranger school has been watered down over the years. Even, the basic requirements have changed of late.

I don’t see how this works when you have them hump a 100 pound backpack 10 miles through terrain. And let’s be blunt, these aren’t “women” in the normal sense.

If a society sees nothing wrong with training women to kill, it’s not worth fighting for.

I suppose if using the military for social experimentation and activism is now considered “historic”, then we’re gonna have some pretty big “history” books soon...

All female USAF cargo crew = “historic”
All female bomber crew = “historic”
All female bomber ground = “historic”
All female Black Hawk helo crew = “historic”

etc., etc. ad nauseum.
