It blew up! Seriously. It’s not like the ones in Hawaii. Those cinder cones develop over time from small eruptions and spewing of ash and magma.
Whenever we drive through Yellowstone I stop on the west rim of the ancient crater (caldera) and explain it to the kids - you can’t see the other side of the crater. The park is inside of the crater.
The ash from the last time was tens of feet thick and extended to Kansas and beyond. When it happens again, it would probably end humanity I’m guessing. Well, at least civilized humanity. No crops throughout the world for a few years would do that.
Had to check my ash thickness. Tens of inches - not feet! Still - enough to wipe out existing crops, and more importantly the global cooling that would happen for many years afterwards.
Texas. Sort of far away from Yellowstone.
But if it goes big-time, and looks like the end of the world (as we know it) then the first thing to do is eat all the ice cream.

I thought that, too, until some time ago, I researched what would happen to the country if Yellowstone erupted and saw the map of the country and where the ash would go - unfortunately, Texas would also be covered with ash, plus the ash in the atmosphere would cover the whole earth and blot out the sun, so nothing could be grown for a very long time.
It would be a death sentence for our Earth. People would either die instantly or later from breathing ash (clogging up our lungs) or not having water as ash in water would shut down (clog up) water delivery systems plus starve to death since plants would die from no sun.
It makes one think when that catastrophe is in this country, just waiting to explode.
Yeah. It makes one wonder, though I wonder more about when, as the Earth travels along with the Sun, as the Sun rides along -- what is it -- a bit more than half-way or perhaps 2/3 of the way out from the center of the galaxy(?) we will eventually come across a debris field which has angular momentum contrary to our own (and the Sun's).
Ground explodes and portion of the planet turn inside out-- sky falls -- what's the diff?
Goodbye to electricity grid, hence --- first thing -- eat all the ice cream.
Although doing that may make a person bloated about the mid-section thus making it difficult to 'assume the position' (tuck one's head firmly between the knees and kiss the 'sweet bippy' goodbye) it would scarcely matter?
At least perfectly good ice-cream wouldn't go to waste? Oh wait, it could be Blue Bell. (my bad).
