I question whether a "state" should have its own bank at all. It's served as a slush fund for island politicians and it has rightfully gone bankrupt.
Puerto Rico Ping! Please Freepmail me if you want on or off the list.

Who would have thought that profligate spending would lead to bankruptcy?
School taught me that governments can’t go broke. :)

Puerto Rico Powerball Winner Claims Prize, Chooses To Stay Anonymous
Puerto Rico’s Powerball winner presented one of three winning tickets to last week’s $564 million jackpot, island lottery officials said on Thursday.
But the lucky island resident, who will share the prize with the Texas and North Carolina winners, has chosen to remain anonymous.

So what’s the problem?

Can’t we give Puerto Rico back to somebody? Spain, maybe? And give California back to Mexico, lock, stock and Hellywood. (Spelling intentional)!

A government shutdown would have a devastating impact on the economy My bet is just the opposite. After a period of pain, similar to a heroin addict detoxing, the economy would do much better than when it had the drag of an overbearing government on its back.

What’s the problem? A lot of them are already getting SSDisability because they don’t
s[eak English even though that is not their native language.
