But on Wednesday night, at a reception for him at the Manhattan apartment of two prominent gay hoteliers, the Texas senator struck quite a different tone.
During the gathering, according to two attendees, Mr. Cruz said he would have no problem if one of his daughters was gay. He did not mention his opposition to same-sex marriage, saying only that marriage is an issue that should be left to the states.
The dinner and “fireside chat” for about a dozen people with Mr. Cruz and his wife, Heidi, was at the Central Park South penthouse of Mati Weiderpass and Ian Reisner, longtime business partners who were once a couple and who have been pioneers in the gay hospitality industry.
“Ted Cruz said, ‘If one of my daughters was gay, I would love them just as much,’” recalled Mr. Reisner, a same-sex marriage proponent who described himself as simply an attendee at Mr. Weiderpass’s event.
Mr. Reisner and Kalman Sporn, who advises Mr. Cruz’s Middle East team and served as the moderator for the evening, said that the senator told the group that marriage should be left up to the states.
He did not bring up his own opposition to same-sex marriage during the evening, which focused mainly on foreign policy.
An aide to Mr. Cruz, reached on Thursday, reiterated that the senator is opposed to same-sex marriage.
Mr. Cruz has honed his reputation as a grassroots firebrand, who was strongly supportive of the Indiana religious freedom law that was recently blasted as discriminatory by gay rights activists. [snip]

They don't understand basic christian doctrine. Everything they write that is based in basic christian doctrine would be off base, as this article is, because their initial premise is faulty. Me too- I’m hoping Ted is cut from a different cloth and that he is as strong as I hope he is, and this is why when I see soemthign like this article by the times, I get a ‘little nervous’ because I don’t want to find out that he or any candidate waffles on this or any other conservative issue- I personally think the NYT put words in his mouth by claiming Ted said he would have no problem if... but perhaps he did say that- I HOPE not-

So where's the problem with that? If my daughter or son was homosexual (I don't call homosexual perversion "gay") I would love her or him just as much as I do now, and so would any normal father or mother. Don't get me wrong, I'm as steadfastly opposed to homosexual "marriage" as anyone could be. But although I hate the sin I must love the sinner. And in fact so does God, enough to send His Son to die in his/her place.
Homosexual acts are a sinful perversion of God's plan for populating the earth, and in Romans ch 1 rampant homosexual activities are named as one of the primary reasons for God's destruction of the antediluvian world with a universal flood. However, I don't see how any normal Christian parent could not love a son or daughter no matter how great a sinner he/she might be.
