Ted Cruz to Newsmax: GOP Will Lose With 'Establishment Candidate'

Republicans will lose the 2016 presidential election if they nominate an "establishment" GOP candidate, Sen. Ted Cruz told Newsmax TV on Wednesday.

In a candid and wide-ranging interview at Newsmax headquarters in Florida, Cruz predicted that a candidate in the mold of a Mitt Romney, John McCain, or Bob Dole will nearly guarantee that Democrat Hillary Clinton wins the White House.

"It will, in effect, be a third term for Barack Obama,&qquot; the Texas Republican said in an exclusive interview with "MidPoint" host Ed Berliner.

Cruz, who in March became the first major Republican to declare his candidacy, said that if he were elected president, he would put an end to the domestic and foreign policies of President Obama, which he termed a "disaster."

Cruz didn't single out any rival GOP hopefuls, but named the last three Republican general-election losers: Romney, McCain, and Dole, as examples of how to sideline millions of conservative voters who feel ignored.

"... all three are good, honorable, decent men. They're heroes, but what they did didn't work. And if we do it again, the same voters who stayed home in '08 and '12 will stay home in '16 and Hillary Clinton will be the next president," said Cruz.

This wasn't the first time Cruz used that cautionary trio in his presidential pitch.

In March, before he declared his intention to run, he said, "All of those are good men, those are decent men — but when you don’t stand and draw a clear distinction, when you don’t stand for principle, Democrats celebrate."

You are right. I got an email from Ari wanting a donation to the GOP. I answered saying no money until a real conservative person was the nominee. I also said people are tired of voting for dem lights and some have said they will not vote and the dems will win again.

He’s damn right.

“Look, we aren’t straight up liberals. But we will slowly come around to all the same touchy feely stuff if you want us to.”

Dole, McCain, and Romney - the “establishment” picks whose role was simply to lose to the democrat.

You know, I was for Perry until I started researching him. I said, no way.

I agree. I’ve already sent him my first check. I should go monthly with him. Does it bother you that he likes the H1B visa program? Right now that’s my only nit-pick with him.

I'm not nitpicking or looking for perfection. I've got the same test on politicians that I've always had.

They have to be for privatized medicine, against abortion (killing is wrong), for the 2nd amendment, for smaller government, and against illegal immigration.

That's pretty much the same criteria that I used 20 years ago. You can see from that I couldn't vote for McCain or Romney.

The really bad part was that Romney knew all along what the Obama was doing to the TEA party with the IRS and did nor said nothing because it was also to his advantage. In that way, Romney was just as big of a scumbag as the Obama.

Yeah -- it's one place where I disagree with Cruz. Romney is far removed from being good, honorable, or decent. Any politician who would sign a proclamation praising Gay Youth Pride and its outreach to school children (Romney did), any politician who would state that a pregnant minor who wants an abortion over her parents' objections should be able to go to a judge to overturn her parents (Romney did) -- is bad, corrupt, and depraved.

Every politician has to blow a little smoke during an election. The guys are from his party. He has to play nice a little bit.

I'm not holding it against Cruz. Would I be that nice to a senior senator when I despise his positions? Maybe not. I'm a hard-@$$ on some stuff.

But he can, as far as I'm concerned.

Absolutely agreed! I don't hold it against him, either. What Cruz is doing here is sensibly pragmatic, politically speaking.

As opposed to stupidly pragmatic politics, such as voting for the Republican, no matter how liberal, just to vote "against" the Democrat (when in fact there is no such thing as voting "against" on any ballot ... even when one votes "against" a proposition, what they are doing is voting for nixing a proposition instead of voting for implementing it).

I'm with ya a hunnert percent, Johnnny!

Actually, I am VERY encouraged by the overwhelming attitude here on FR that the midstream RINOs are only about three cocktails away from the Dem party.

LOL.

Thank you! I forgive you - even if you DID write something.

P.S. I won’t go back and do a search on your screen-name....

Haha.

Here at FR, we ALL have more wisdom than we had yesterday.

(I wonder if that’s a good new quote...)
