My Islamic Faith Prevents Me From Paying Interest on My Student Loans
Huffington Post ^ | April 22, 2015 | Steve Rhode

Posted on 04/22/2015 1:39:21 PM PDT by Idaho_Cowboy

Dear Steve,

I had two citi-student loans and at some point in time within the last 5 years they went to Navient (Sallie Mae)

I recently called to ask if I could get a lower pay-off amount as the original loans were 32K and now they are up to about 64K because of deferment and interest. They said no and I believe these may have been private loans.

My conditions have changed. I was born into Islam, but never knew much about my religion. Since 2012 I have been learning more about my faith and it is strictly forbidden in my faith to have dealings with interest.

I am offering to pay off the original amount I owe however due to religious reasons would like them to recognize that my awareness and conditions have changed from the time of originally accepting the loan with Citi-Student Loan Corp and not even with them at Sallie Mae.

In a sane world, Islam would be a good reason for not being able to get a student loan. American universities are being exposed to terrorism at the taxpayer’s expense, and the terrorists don’t want to pay the money back. Big surprise! It’s better to keep Muslims impoverished, ignorant, and at home, their homes, whatever hellholes they come from.

Then don’t take out a student loan. Why must you grandstand?

They are trying to equate Muslims not having to pay interest with Christians not having to serve gays, that’s the whole reason Huffington Post published it.

The two scenarios are not even remotely analogous. You'd think even a leftist at the Huffington Post would be smart enough to see the difference.

But then again . . .

This moozlum is an idiot. Who cares what his current religious belief is. Apparently, he signed the loan agreement. Pay up, you degenerate!

Well, the muzzie signed a legally binding contract while the Christians refused to initiate a contract.

If both cases are based on faith then morality lies with refusal to deceive (Christians) rather than intent to deceive (muzzie).

If we allow this we also need to allow lenders to deny loans to someone who might become muslime and pull this. Watch the liberal heads explode with that!

He signed the loan agreement, thereby entering into a religiously forbidden agreement. I would cancel the loan and cut off both his hands and feet (shariah....). Oh, and back to Arabistan.

"citi-" as in Citigroup? Pioneers in Sharia-Compliant Finance. Biggest shareholder lives in a tent in the Sahara.

It's karma.

A better comparison would be if the baker agreed to make a cake and became Christian after making it, but before delivering it.
If I was in that situation, I would ask the gay couple to relief me from that debt, offer their money back and maybe more to smooth things over. After all, I did give them my word that I would bake a cake. If they outright refused, it would be my conclusion they are just forcing the agreement to make me suffer (What reason would they turn down more than the purchase price of the cake?). At that point I may just buy the cake from someone else just for the sole purpose of being a man of my word or just make the cake, but put a Bible verse on it. That would probably piss them off though.
