In New Orleans, midnight sounded on last call – for smoking. A new law just took effect banning cigarettes, cigars and other forms of tobacco smoking from all bars.

And some local residents are relieved.

“This is one of the smokiest bars in town,” said Steve Zweibaum, speaking to the New York Times from one local bar. “I know a bunch of people who don’t come in here because of the smoke. Maybe they’ll come back.”

“You could be right but allowing the patrons to choose doesn’t do anything for the people who work in the bar. In May my son’s band plays at a 90 year old bar and dancing establishment in Arkansas. Before that they have a tour through the south. I’m pretty sure that there will be smoking. He has no choice but to be there. Its been over 10 years since smoking was allowed in a public establishment in the KC metro area.”

Convenient Conservatism is a wonderful thing, until it bites you in the rear end. I hope you enjoy the gay weddings that the government will demand your church accomodate.

Public accomodation has trumped private property, and you applaud.

“I have told clients in custody cases that I will not represent them unless they quit smoking.”

If I were able to convince the government to use its guns to force you to cater to smokers, would you be happy? I’d guess nope.

Now, if you answered that honestly, then your position that you are satisfied with the use of government guns to enforce your preference is nothing but tyranny.

In addition, your claims of being affected are so miniscule in sociaty that it makes you a Petty Tyrant.

Those guns will be turned on you very soon. Enjoy your “Brave New World.” It will be well earned.

I don't drink so I don't go to bars and neither do I smoke. MrD chewed tobacco for 50 years and while that is a nasty habit, it doesn't stink like smoking does.

We were at a banquet years ago and the man sitting next to me said “do you mind if I smoke?” I actually said “do you mind if I fart?”

He caught my meaning and got up and stomped off. It was funny! Everyone else laughed.

It sure is a good thing that libertarians are not about drugs, that must be why they have been so vocal about legalizing tobacco for the last 40 years.

lol - that’ll be interesting wont it?? I’ll bet you’ll see the same behavior as I described.

I don’t get the e-smoke ban either - there’s no smoke. Banning them is purely ideological.

doesn’t do anything for the people who work in the bar.

I could think of much worse places to work.......a foundry, a coal mine, the press shop of an automotive stamping plant......

Cant wait to see the bars close in droves. I was living in CA when they passed this law, and the bars that did survive allowed smoking, they just hid it. The ones that did not, either allowed it in the bathrooms, or closed up within months of the law passing.

Guess I can cross off ever going near NO for a vacation lol as I dont go where I am not welcome or accommodated.

in New Orleans...”includes usage of smokeless e-cigarettes”

Now that is radical. It makes no sense. From what I understand, e-ciggs are orderless and do not emit anything but water vapor. Have I been misinformed on this?

They are not all odorless.... Mine have very delightful odors, but it’s not at all like cigarettes.

The number of “conservatives” opposed to private property rights and individual freedom is astounding and demoralizing. They might as well be “liberals”!

It all revolves around the EPA study on second hand smoke. Once that happened, it signaled the end of public smoking as we have always known it.

Yes, the report was controversial and there are moves to roll back some of the findings. But nothing will happen as long as the government sees second hand smoke as causing cancer.

“I bet you’ll be able to find Willie Nelson’s brand “Willie’s Reserve” sold in the underground market.”

Never thought that I’d ever see the day that weed was endorsed and marketed by an 82 year old man.

I bet Wille never thought he’d live as along as he has.

- Smoking is now prohibited in outdoor sporting arenas and stadiums — except during concerts, festivals and parades.

I’ve never - EVER seen a parade in an outdoor sporting arena or stadium.
