GOP Pollster: Scott Walker’s Bold New Pro-American Immigration Position ‘Winning Hand’
Breitbart ^ | 21 Apr 2015 | Matthew Boyle

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s new populist pro-American worker position on immigration is “absolutely the winning hand” ... GOP pollster KellyAnne Conway of The Polling Company told Breitbart News ... Tuesday.

Conway said of Walker:

The left will try to caricature him as union-busting, as anti-worker. This gives him the opportunity to say ‘if you’re for amnesty, you’re anti-worker. What I am is pro-worker. It is anti government corruption. Having public sector union members expect Wisconsin taxpayers pay 100 percent of their benefits, that wasn’t fair.’ It’s a matter of fairness. Allow him to explain all of that as pro-worker not anti-worker and if he can do that he’ll be fine. Also, this gives him a distinction among a Republican field that’s getting increasingly crowded. This allows him to be seen as a working-class, populist hero—a working class governor who’s a natural populist, it’s just a natural fit. I don’t know if Mitt Romney could have pulled this off. Then you fast forward and you think of this idea versus Hillary Clinton—if she even has anything to say on immigration—this is the winning hand. This is absolutely the winning hand.

...

While I’m sure Gov. Walker is not doing this as a Republican primary ploy—it seems like a real change of heart while reviewing the data and thinking through the realities of job losses in his home state, in the rust belt area and indeed across the country—the only people who disagree are liberals. Democrats are on board, Republicans and conservatives are on board so are independents. If you look at the data, only liberals say Obama should go it alone on amnesty and liberals are less likely than Democrats, Republicans and independents pro-American immigration policy. But so what? That’s 18 percent of the country. Whoopee.

I just don’t like Cruz’s stance on immigration. He wants millions coming from China, India and other asian companies to take jobs from Americans in tech another engineering. That is more dangerous than any other candidate we have.

Rubio, Jebster, Huckabee, Perry all have worse positions.

I don't see anything this week from Walker other than bland generalities on Beck and Kelly. Walker is pro-worker? So is everyone. How much is Walker proposing to cut legal immigration and in what categories? Does Walker advocate deporting those here illegally? Walker has carefully not said.

To my mind, this is all more of the same from politicians. I see this as a mad dash to the right by the mushy middle, akin to Romney's 11th hour immigration conversion in 2012.

None of what Walker said this week takes courage or risks his political capital.

We will soon see Cruz flesh out his position on immigration. Cruz will not display duplicity.

He will also be able to lever this against illegal immigration which hurts both domestic Americans and legal immigrants.

No one ever adds the costs of arrest, prosecution, trial and eventual incarceration for (non-immigration) crimes committed by illegal aliens.

It dwarfs the other social costs of education, medical care, welfare, etc.

Walker’s been running a State and fighting unions and other democrats.

I don’t think he’s had a lot of time to worry about national issues. But now that he is, we’re seeing a quick and flexible mind in action... his immigration solution is brilliant.

Listen, stop with the propaganda.

Walker just came out against ALL immigration, what do you want from him a pound of flesh?

I personally prefer Cruz, but there is no need to attack someone so viciously who is agreeing with us and who is actually going a step further and seeking to stem the tide of both illegal and legal immigration.

I honestly believe Walker didn't have a strong position on the issue up until recently, and what you see as flip flopping was him simply thinking through the issue publicly before finally deciding on exactly where he stands.

Thanks for your positive tone ...

Down here in Tampa / St-Pete the biggest public issue is "if" the Tampa Bay Rays move from St. Petersburg to the Tampa downtown area (with a new $ 400 million dollar stadium).

ANYONE running for public office (Dogcatcher to Mayor) is EXPECTED to have a "well thought out opinion" on this political issue.

Illegal Immigration is the same type of political issue for the U.S.

For Scott Walker NOT to have a Well-Thought-Out position on Illegal Immigration ...

insults our intelligence.
