To: Cincinatus' Wife

I had a friend who was swatted. An anonymous person (who disagreed with my friend over local issues) called the police to say he had a dead body in his house. Before my friend knew it, cops were on top of his house and battering down his door. He’s never been the same.

This is upsetting just to read.

I can’t imagine what it would be like to live though something like this.

Regarding your friend who got swatted, unless it happened 20+ years ago there’s no such thing as “anonymous”

And filing a false police report, one that results in a home invasion by police, isn’t something that the cops take lightly. Big reason is that any home invasion puts cops lives at risk. Secondary considerations are that it costs money to do so, and has the potential for costing even more money if the cops are wrong.

Note that the above reasons are practical in nature, not theoretical. Concern for rights and liberties of the accused is pretty far down the list.
