Posted on 04/18/2015 8:40:50 PM PDT by School of Rational Thought

Father died a few hours ago.

Veteran of Saipan.

It has not quite hit me yet. I was care giver 24/7 for both my parents for seven years. My mother went two years ago.

Just drinking.

Sorry about the loss of your father, A father is a special person in your life. I lost mine when I was only 11, so I never knew him from an adult’s perspective.

You are lucky to have had him so long. May he rest in peace. +++

I also had a Father who was in the Mariannas , Saipan, Tinian, and Guam, who was in the 4th Marine Division. I was thinking of him yesterday, a good bit.
God help you in your grief, and in all the details that will be taxing you in the next few weeks.

Prayer bump

My parents were older when they had me; I lost them in my 30s. I can tell you, it does get better with time. You’ll be able to think of them and smile.

God bless and comfort you.

Looks like you have actually lived Matthew 6:20. My hat is off and my head is bowed at the spectacle of a truly faithful son, so rare these days.

Meh. I’m just some jerk with a keyboard who tries to do right every now and again. :)

Seriously though, I hope this fellow does not try to ‘medicate this away’. I have experience with this. Not only does it not work, it compounds it 1000 fold. You still feel it all, just later, and with more impact — AND you feel bad about self-medicating — AND your health is impacted.

Lose-lose-lose.

I am very sorry for your loss.

Both my parents have Alzheimer’s and my dad is pretty bad off. I know my day to feel what you are feeling will come.

Saying a prayer for you. They were lucky to have you as a child.

I am so sorry, SoRT. If your Father is with the Lord, wild horses could not convince him to return to this life. He is in a far better place. We can rejoice that he is experiencing joy and peace, freedom from pain, and no more tears. May the God Who comforts us wrap you in His arms and give you the assurance that He is taking good care of your father. I am so glad you have the blessing of knowing that you took good care of him here. What a comfort that must be to you!

It is never easy.

Be thankful you had him for so long.

And you were a good son for watching over your mom and dad for so long.

The best way to honor your dad is to do the best things he taught you and send them on down the line.

God bless you.

Sad, I pray that once the duties you have to do now are done that you can join into life activities that you now have time some to enjoy.
I lost my dad of 66 back in 2004 to bone cancer. He had been lucky to serve in the USAF between Korea and Nam and he worked 30 plus years
in the civil service on nukes. He worked around a lot of magnetic fields and I figure that my have contributed.
I still dream of him sometimes and I really miss his wisdom and kindness most of all. Thanks to Jesus he is waiting for me.
