Father dies
self

Posted on 04/18/2015 8:40:50 PM PDT by School of Rational Thought

Father died a few hours ago.

Veteran of Saipan.

It has not quite hit me yet. I was care giver 24/7 for both my parents for seven years. My mother went two years ago.

Just drinking.

Precisely. A gentle reminder that drinking will exacerbate the pain is certainly in order.

I am so sorry.

I lost my dad in 2004. He was a Navy Vet, a wonderful dad and grandfather, and a deeply patriotic, good person.

Now, more than eleven years later, most days are more good than bad. I remember the good days and years, not the sad ones as much.

My prayer for you is that see those better days soon. The first year is hard - full of firsts - first days, months, holidays without them.

But it gets better.Your dad would want you to be at peace. So I’ll pray for peace and better days for you.

May God bless you.

My prayers for you. Everyone in this world goes through these times of great sadness. It isn’t supposed to be easy.

Your Father is with the Lord.

Condolences on your loss, SRT. You did right by your dad. He and your mom were blessed to have such a caring son. I took care of my mom until she passed. When she did, it left a huge hole in our home. Grieve his loss, but celebrate his life. Remember the love and care he gave you as you grew up, and be comforted knowing that you could return that love and care in his last years.

God bless you.

So sorry for the loss - the strain of being a care-giver must have been intense and the arbiter of mixed emotions.

When my wife was caring for our son who had stage 4 lung cancer (appears to have a chance as I write this) she was given "A Care Giver's Prayer"

I am posting it for those who may find a use for it:

A Caregiver’s Prayer

Heavenly Father; help me better understand and believe I can do what you ask me to do.

Forgive me for the times, even now, when I question your judgment.

As I go about the many daily tasks of caregiving, give me energy.

As I watch my loved one oh-so-slowly walk across the room, give me strength.

As I answer his/her repeated questions just one more time, give me patience.

As I look for solutions to whatever is the most recent concern, give me wisdom.

As I reminisce with him/her about the “good old days,” give me a moment of laughter.

As I get to know my loved one in a new way, seeing both his or her strength and frailty, give me joy.

As I sit beside my loved one’s bed waiting for his or her pain medication to take effect, give me comfort.

Lighten my burden, answer my prayer, and give me the strength to to what so often seems impossible. Give me a quiet place to rest when I need it and a quieting of my anxieties when I’m there.

Change my attitude from a tired, frustrated and an angry caregiver to the loving and compassionate one I want to be. Remain my constant companion as I face the challenges of caregiving and when my job is through and it’s time for me to let go. Help me remember that he or she is leaving my loving arms to enter your eternal embrace. Amen.

Prayers up for God to touch you with His healing Love - God bless.

My deepest sympathies on your loss.

My dad, also a WWII vet, is now in the mid stages of Alzheimer’s. Every day I worry I will get the phone call that something has happened. Every day the call doesn’t come is a blessing.

For me, the passing of a parent draws me closer to my own mortality. When My dad finally passes, I know that soon it will be my turn and my son will watch every little thing I do looking for signs.

You have done your duty to both of your parents. May your father and you find peace in our God.

Lost both my mother and father 2 weeks apart 3 years ago. They wanted me to move on quickly. I am willing to bet they want you to move on quickly. To honor them, do so and live well.
