General Patton was very upset and told Ike how he felt. Patton and others weren’t fooled. Patton said one tyrant was being replaced by another.

Patton was right to be angry, and besides Churchill, I don't who the "others" were.

However, this was not an Ike deal (Ike was just following the orders of his Commander in Chief) but an FDR deal - the result of unfortunate political decisions made in Quebec and Yalta, where it seems pretty clear that Stalin out-negotiated FDR.

That article (page 22). Replace the word Jap/Japanese with Muslim/Islam and change the date to 2015.

Bob Dole’s right arm was withered the rest of his life. He has a nifty move to shake your hand by twisting his left hand under so he could shake your right hand. Threw me the first time I felt that, but it was a good skill for a politician to have!

The Left will never permit WW-II to be presented as a war against Nazi and Japanese paganism.

That’s my question, who? Who were the high officials on record as opposing FDR’s deal letting Stalin take, among other things, all the territory surrounding Berlin?

It’s not just what became East Germany. People of all levels in Poland and the other countries who were under the Soviet sphere knew they were screwed. They were ignored.

After reading about all the atrocities committed by both the Krauts and Japs, I just can't find one iota of sympathy for Dresden, the firebombing of Tokyo and other cities, Hiroshima, Nagasaki or any other act of war we prosecuted against them.

“Her Royal Highness, the Princess Elizabeth.”

Elizabeth, while heiress to the throne, was not Princess of Wales; her brother, if she had one, would have been Prince of Wales.

Interesting excerpt from “Band of Brothers.” Very amusing that the young men thought they could hook up with Czech or Polish girls and found themselves out in the cold.

Unfortunately Russia was already in Poland. Not much anyone could do about that. They were going to do what they were going to do. But Berlin and its surroundings, especially to the west, was up for grabs and through negotiations at Quebec and Yalta, FDR let Stalin have it. Other than Churchill and Patton, I don’t read of a whole of others who were howling in protest over that.

My dad had gotten posted to Okinawa in late '49 or early '50, and when he arrived, there were still signs of what had happened on the island in WWII, and plenty of people who could give him an idea of just how bad taking it had been. After having been there a while, he was detailed to go with a detachment to Ie Shima to staff a radar installation. This was a duty that nobody wanted, as Ie Shima was universally considered a "s**thole" (dad's term) that the native Okinawans said was crawling with poisonous snakes ("Habu! Habu!").

There is a long story I won't tell about how dad managed to stay off the snake-infested outhouse - it was one of two absolute freaks of fortune dad had while on Okinawa - but the result was that dad did not go to Ie Shima. Nonetheless, when he tells the story and mentions Ie Shima, he always, ALWAYS, mentions it as the place where Ernie Pyle was killed.

A few days back I posted a picture of my Dad’s from Okinawa which he took as he was heading home from his stint in Korea. It’s of a half-sunken Japanese ship in Naha Harbor. Or at least I’m assuming it’s Japanese.

Oh. I’m pretty sure my Dad’s pic was from ‘54. The evidence of that mighty battle was still quite evident.
