Obama loses BIG as Corker-Menendez bill passes committee unanimously
The Jewish Star ^ | 4/17/15 | Jeff Dunetz

The Senate Foreign Relations committee approved Tuesday afternoon the Corker-Menendez bill requiring that any deal the Obama Administration makes with Iran has to be approved by congress unanimously. Technically Congress won’t be voting on the deal, they will be voting on whether or not to remove the sanctions. However if the sanctions are not removed there will be no deal from Iran's point of view.

But that's not the big story. After Sen. Corker announced a compromise everyone knew the bill would pass with bipartisan support, although no one could have foreseen unanimity.

The big news is that Obama folded. He said via his press secretary Josh Earnest that unless there were radical changes from what he saw earlier in the day he would sign the bill. Just before the committee meeting started he withdrew its veto threat.

This is a bogus article. The corker bill was an Obama breakout .Korker got owned. The first giveaway is that it was bipartisan between Democrats and Republican.Nothing is bipartisan any more.
The original Constitutional clause says the senate may vote up or down the treaty. Now the senate needs 67 vote to veto Obama’s treaty. It’s really more complicated that that but korker will allow Iran to get a bomb with his recklessness.

Perhaps this was a easy collapse....in that there is ‘no’ treaty signed? Correct me if I’m wrong....but they simply sat at a table and said they’d reached some agreement. As of yet, has anyone really seen anything on paper?

Yes an no.

In this case the vote was on the circumstances for removing sanctions, not approving a treaty. Some sanctions are in the hands of the President, he can remove them with the stroke of a pen. Others require a Congressional vote.

The President can unilaterally enter into agreements with foreign nations, they just don’t have have the force offa treaty, and can be undone by a future administration.

67 votes?! I didn’t know that was part of the deal. I shoud have known.
Ah, besides China building five new nuclear facilities in Iran, Russia selling them SAMs, the attack on the mock US aircraft carrier, the chants of death to America, the refusal to end the call for Israel’s destruction, the support of terrorism throughout the region, the torturing of American prisoners, including a marine and the faiure to et inspectors do their job, this is a GEAT deal.
Why hasn’t Israel launched yet?

Obama didn't fold, McConnell and Corker did by watering the bill down enough for the Democrats to climb on board.

This bill is actually capitulation on the part of the senate and lets Obama off the hook.

It pretends the pending Obama/Iran agreement is not a treaty.

Once again Obama and the democrat criminals in the senate give the republicans, the constitution and all Americans a good rogering.

corker is a very wealthy, big war chest RINO, and up for re-election 2016.

Need I say more?

Exactly. Mark Levin has been talking about this for days. Obama and the Democrats couldn't be any happier with this "compromise".

This "political agreement" is a disaster. It means Iran will be (or is) a nuclear power, there will be a nuclear arms race, and Israel has been abandoned.

Corker is a fool. He serves the Democrats.

“Now the senate needs 67 vote to veto Obama’s treaty.”

They will get 67. Moderates and bad, but they won’t commit political suicide.

Read Andrew McCarthy’s article on this.

Corker and the GOPe gang changed the Constitution requiring a 67 Senate vote to approve a treaty to a 67 Senate vote required to veto the Obama treaty. This would make it impossible to defeat Obama’s treaty and give cover to the GOPe so that they looked like the did their best to stop Obama. A blatant disregard for the Constitution by the entire government.

The way someone on The Journal Editorial Report explained it, 41 Democrats can filibuster any attempt to stop the deal. The only question would be whether some vulnerable Democrats might refuse to join in the filibuster. The same person pointed out that the bill passed unanimously and that's generally a bad sign in Washington.
