The King of Clubs is dead: Former Saddam henchman, ISIS commander, on US most-wanted list, killed
The Daily Mail (IK) ^

A fugitive Iraqi militant leader and the former right-hand man of Saddam Hussein has reportedly been killed in a skirmish.

Iraqi officials said Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri had died in fighting with government troops in Salahuddin province, north of Baghdad.

Al-Douri, 72, headed the Naqshbandi Order insurgent group, an important faction behind the recent rise of ISIS.

He was one of Saddam's most trusted henchmen, helping to lead his 1968 bloodless coup. Both Al-Douri and Saddam came from the same Tikriti tribal background.

He was then deputy to Saddam when he was deposed following the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

Following the execution of Saddam Hussein on 30 December, 2006, Al-Douri was confirmed as the new leader of the banned Ba'ath Party.

Al-Douri was deemed the most high-profile official of Saddam's Ba'ath Party to evade capture after the invasion.

He was ranked sixth on the US military's list of the 55 most-wanted Iraqis after offensive to overthrow Saddam and had a $10m bounty on his head.

Always wondered about the guy. He managed to elude detection for years through an extensive network of contacts and safe houses. But his luck ran out.

Not to worry-—Obama will find a suitable replacement for him. Eric Holder is looking for a job.

This guy just keeps dying. Is he really dead this time?

Here’s another report from 2005

***Izzat Ibrahim al-Duri, the fugitive former number two of deposed Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, reportedly died, as US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice paid a surprise visit as part of a regional tour.

There was a 10-million-dollar US bounty outstanding on Ibrahim, 63, who was said to be gravely ill with leukemia. Ibrahim was the most senior former Iraqi leader still at large since Saddam was captured in December 2003. He did much of Saddam’s dirty work and commanded an entire army corps despite never having attended a military institution or school of higher learning

The death report came the day Rice visited Iraq to whip up participation in next month’s general elections. ***

Don’t let Obama know, he’ll send a medical team there to revive him and if that doesn’t work then burial with full honors.

Iraqi officials said Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri

Soldier finding the body: "Hey, Izzat Ibrahim?"
Fellow soldier: "Sure looks like him."

Any unconverting ISIS who becomes a waswas is a point for the side of freedom.

Good riddance. Izzat was a nasty piece of work. There was a $10M
price. It would be nice if the Iraqi grunts who actually whacked him could get his carcass to the nearest US consulate and claim the reward, but it probably can’t happen for any number of reasons.
