Eye in the sky: Local constables using drones to fight crime

The Harris County Precinct 1 Constable's Office is doing something that no other agency in Harris County is believed to have done yet: Use drones to help fight crime.

It's an eye in the sky for law enforcement, without giving up the element of surprise.

"It could absolutely save lives," says Constable Alan Rosen.

Rosen says the agency's two new $1,200 drones, which have been in use for three weeks, are game changers in getting intel before serving search warrants, on SWAT situations and even looking for escaped inmates.

"You're not gonna detect that the drone is there because it's so quiet," Rosen said.

“It could absolutely save lives,” says Constable Alan Rosen.

So could, potentially, banning all driving.
But that doesn’t mean it is a good idea.

Every air force has to land somewhere.

That’s where you destroy it.

I bet these drones will not be at the next Feral Black Teen attack at a Shop and Go beat down!

Cops in Texas are still called Constables?

How quaint.

Cool! Now I have an excuse to buy that semi-auto shotgun!

Here’s to hoping they fly it too close to a skeet range.

All TX constables are cops, but not all cops are constables.

Constables are under Justice of the Peace. I get pulled over by one occasionally. They are basically Chihuahuas.

I grew up in a town with a Constable. The head of the Hutaree here in Michigan was elected Constable after he was acquitted.

I got a notice recently that my home would be photographed from a plane sometime soon for tax purposes. I was considering a message on the roof.

Constable is an elected office here in Texas, too. I gather that constables are different from sheriffs, but I’m not sure how.

How about painting it a pixelated camo pattern?

Our Constable was pretty laid back. He worked a full time 2nd shift job and mostly told us teenagers to quit cutting across Mildred’s yard.

I only saw him take someone into custody one time in 30 years. Keith (the constable) was standing on the sidewalk when some clown made a u-turn in the middle of the street while tipping up a 40 oz Budweiser and almost took out a little kid on his bike.

I think our constables are mostly occupied with being “officers of the court”, including serving papers and such. They drive regular ol’ cop cars and I know for a fact they can pull you over for traffic violations.

In the last TX city I lived in, we helped our constable get elected. He was there drinking with us at the party on election night. That was Bush vs. Kerry, 2004 (the last prez election that involved a celebration).

and let’s not forget TEXAS RANGERS

I’m sure this list is incomplete~
