Scientists find key to 'turbo-charging' immune system to kill all cancers

A protein which ‘turbo-charges’ the immune system so that it can fight off any cancer or virus has been discovered by scientists.

In a breakthrough described as a ‘game-changer’ for cancer treatment, researchers at Imperial College found a previously unknown molecule which boosts the body’s ability to fight off chronic illnesses.

Scientists at Imperial College London, who led the study, are now developing a gene therapy based on the protein and hope to begin human trials in three years.

“This is exciting because we have found a completely different way to use the immune system to fight cancer,” said Professor Philip Ashton-Rickardt, from the Section of Immunobiology in the Department of Medicine at Imperial, who led the study.

“It could be a game-changer for treating a number of different cancers and viruses.

“This is a completely unknown protein. Nobody had ever seen it before or was even aware that it existed. It looks and acts like no other protein.”

The protein – named lymphocyte expansion molecule, or LEM, promotes the spread of cancer killing ‘T cells’ by generating large amounts of energy.

Normally when the immune system detects cancer it goes into overdrive trying to fight the disease, flooding the body with T cells. But it quickly runs out of steam.

However the new protein causes a massive energy boost which makes T cells in such great numbers that the cancer cannot fight them off.

It also causes a boost of immune memory cells which are able to recognise tumours and viruses they have encountered previously so there is less chance that they will return.

The team made the discovery while screening mice with genetic mutations. They found one type produced ten times the number of cancer-fighting T cells, suppressing infections and becoming resistant to cancer.

Ever since I was forcibly shoved into Windows 8.1 from 8.0 my PC has been giving me fits.

Sure hope this isn’t some “Resident Evil” zombie apokyklipse prank. T-cells indeed.

With the 5yte-tons of money in cancer research, we can only hope they are actually on track to a cure.

Happens to me. I’m mid-30’s never get sick, but have rheumatoid arthritis issues. I went on biologics to control it like Enbrel and Humira, and then I was hit by bad pneumococcal pneumonia. I decided to quit Humira and just live with it and a year later my immune system is back to 100% and haven’t been sick this year.
I can imagine the crazy side effects of a molecule that suppresses disease.

[[Happens to me. I’m mid-30’s never get sick, but have rheumatoid arthritis issues. I went on biologics to control it like Enbrel and Humira, and then I was hit by bad pneumococcal pneumonia. ]]

I was on 6 mercaptopurine (6mp) and kept getting what I thought was bronchitis- went to health center, blue because I couldn’t breath, and they told me it was ‘just my asthma’ and send me home without treatment- 2 hours later was in hospital fighting not to pass out from lack of oxygen, hooked up to nebulizer-

This kept happening- Kept getting terrible boils, nose sores, canker sores, colds and flues were always not much fun due ot added difficulty breathing- etc-

Terrible stuff immunosuppressants are- I came off them but keep having to get surgery every 8 or so years because of it- I’ve been 10 years now without surgery, but I’m luckily so far beating the average- we’ll see what the future brings-

Possibly, but I don’t understand why they don’t immediately test it on people who have nothing to lose and everything to gain. I’m sure that it wouldn’t be hard to find some very willing volunteers.

“When it does, scientists predict, it does it will make electricity too cheap to meter, and finally end our reliance on risky foreign oil.”

You forgot about the salve you put on a limb stump, and a month later, you have a new full-size leg or arm!

Gotta be a catch — too easy.

If it does work there will be means testing for who will be allowed to receive treatment per Agenda 21. If you are one of the Soros cultists and in the top 1%, you will be allowed to live. Everyone else goes to the FEMA camp for rendering into a more random and particulate form of biomass.

Because if people die, lawyers will step in and sue the crap out of the makers of the pills-

That doesn’t work- however, I have invented a new hair tonic that regrows hair over night thanks to the power of my perpetual motion device which I also invented

yeah ... take it, and you become a zombie.

I saw it on that documentary "World War Z" ... or maybe it was "I Am Legend" ...

Caution is in order, but we seem to be at last nearing an understanding of the underlying genetic and biological processes that we may soon be able to make seemingly simple changes that defeat or reverse entire disease processes. Similarly, antibiotics and hormones once also once seemed nearly magical in their effects but are now routine and easy.

I think they do that somewhat, once animal trials have completed. I suspect the FDA regulates this.
