Poll: Indiana Gov. Mike Pence's Approval Rating Plunges After 'Religious Freedom' Law
National Journal ^ | April 16, 2015 | Karyn Bruggeman

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence spent the week telling reporters, "I think the difficult time that Indiana just passed through two weeks ago is behind us."

But a new poll released Thursday suggests the governor could have a tough time recovering from the controversy surrounding Indiana's "religious freedom" law.

The poll, from Howey Politics and conducted by a Republican-affiliated research firm, said that 46 percent of voters disapprove of Pence while 45 percent approve of him.

That approval rating is double digits below Pence's performance in other recent polls in the state. A January survey from Public Opinion Strategies conducted for Americans for Prosperity put Pence's approval at 66 percent, and a poll from February for the Indiana Association of Realtors had Pence at 62 percent.

Do the number reflect because he signed the law or he was a spineless loser who back-tracked shamelessly?

All Republican politicians out there, PAY ATTENTION.

When you cave to the left, they still hate you, and your base will desert you.

This is from the fellow who runs Howey Politics. Looks like a heavy lean to the left.

Well, what do you know, by caving so fast your head spun he ticked off his right base and didn't win any friends on the left to replace them.

It's almost like Caving Wins you NOTHING >:(

Hardly a surprise. I’ve rarely seen such a grotesque display of spineless, cowering surrender, as he offered in his press conference, when he groveled and prostrated himself before the pressure of the homo-fascists.

It was about as sickening a performance as I’d ever seen. An abject jellyfish. Talk about someone whom I’d NOT want to share a foxhole with.

The Left will not forgive him for even trying to offer religious Hoosiers comfort. We can not forgive him for once having having engaged and then turning a small victory for our side into a contemptible surrender on the actual philosophic issue.

The problem Pence now faces is that he is not only seen as weak, even gutless. He is seen as not having the level of intelligence, even to realize what his final surrender would say about his qualifications--mental & moral qualifications--as a leader. This is very poignant to me, personally, because a few decades back, I was in touch with some very intelligent Conservative Hoosiers, who had a very well planned long term strategy for Indiana. They would have understood the idiocy of how this was handled.

Despite the very negative reaction to this story I remain a believer that Pence is actually a good guy, not a GOPe. He certainly made a big mistake. But, to me it was just that - a mistake. Perhaps there is a Freeper or two who agrees. There are certainly not many.

In any case there is not going to be a Pence for President campaign in 2016. We may regret that.

Exactly and it is a misleading headline. His fall had little or nothing to do with Indian’s ‘Religious Freedom’ Law. It had everything to do with caving into the hissy fit of the GAYstapo.

Please ping me when you find a poll that shows his approval has increased.

Not that bad for Pence, people are evenly divided on the law and he lost some of both sides.
Personally I think he did just awful.

If I do, I will, although I like others here do not anticipate I will (so if I do, it’ll certainly be news). Just stating the stance of the pollster here.

Like others have said, though, Pence will never gain the left by his actions (unless he converts to the “correct” side of the Uniparty) and he alienates the right by the same actions.

He became a squish after the left went nuts on him. I will never forget his interview on Hannity with him saying how he abhors discrimination. He might as well said I don’t beat my wife...who respects such a wuss!

Juxtapose this to Scott Walker. The tantrum over his pro-worker bills was much greater than the hissy fit over the Indiana religious freedom law. Walker stood tough and now has a shot at being president. Pence is done even at a state level. Maybe he can go back and be the mayor of Columbus.
