A new Seattle-based Kickstarter aims to give Americans the environmentally-friendly option of composting their bodies, the green alternative to taking up valuable real estate in a resource-draining casket or contributing to carbon dioxide emissions with their burning flesh, like a common tire fire. From this idea, the Urban Death Project was born.
Composting makes people think of banana peels and coffee grounds, Katrina Spade, the project's founder, told the Times. "But 'our bodies have nutrients. What if we could grow new life after weve died?'
Bodies, of course, decompose just like everything else. The Kickstarter page breaks it down. (Ha.)
Our bodies are made up of nitrogen, phosphorus, and calcium, and when coupled with high carbon material such as woodchips and sawdust, we turn into soil in a process called composting. What happens to a body in an Urban Death Project facility is a lot like what happens on the top six inches of the forest floor, as organic material breaks down to form precious topsoil. The First Law of Thermodynamics states that neither energy nor matter can be created nor destroyed. When we die, the decomposition process breaks down the molecules in our bodies into smaller molecules and atoms, which are then incorporated into new molecules. In other words, our physical bodies are literally transformed into new substances. The system of the Urban Death Project activates this process and accelerates it with the help of carbon materials, aeration, and hydration.

Utterly disgusting zero respect for the dead. Comparing a loved one to a banana peel or coffee grounds.
I can see a typical lib family: Dad plants corn besides grandma the same way a dead fish is planted with corn.
Corn matures and is picked.
Dad serves corn to kiddies. Feeling so good they saved the planet and that granny fertilized the corn.
If granny was a few kernals short of a cob, we could have a new genetic defect.LOL!

Progressives don’t value people.
I plan on being cremated. I see no useful purpose that I take up real estate for a body I no longer need/want. It served its purpose. Composting does seem a little bizarre though.

Yup.
Ditto.
.
Well, judging from that loooooonnnnggg and narrow image you posted, we seem to grow into whatever at speeds approaching that of light!
May I change your comment to “Progressives don’t like ‘other’ people”.
I bet the elites will have a granite mausoleums, considering they are all hypocrites.
Most. Useless. Graphic. Ever.
Looks like a movie poster too me.
Improper use of HEIGHT and WIDTH specs inside the IMG tag.
Same here.
I don’t know what they’re seeing.
Your IMG specified:
height=”26000” src=”http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zQ2LqPzdD7Q/UILI6ROvm1I/AAAAAAAAD3g/HDBJ4f8nfvs/s640/Soylent+Green.jpg" width=”299”
And our browsers are obediently doing it.
Although slightly off topic, I have notice a commercial lately that ask viewers to come up with a use for used women’s period pads. Why do I mention it now? I do not know.
Download the pic, it’s fine. . . somebody obviously botched the dimensioning in their img src html. . .
