Sort.of.a punk, but I do think he has a point - it’s weird and worrisome for cops to go around, routinely dressed up in kooky, hi-speed clothes, pretending like they’re SEAL Team 6, but minus all the troublesome excercise.
Put on the clothes, drive the vehicle and it puts semi-kooks into Full Kook Mode - they LOOK for confrontation.

When you go out into the public among the citizens dressed like that and armed and protected like that you are nothing more than oppressing tyrants. We already have a military; they are in no way, shape or form equivalent to that nor its replacement IMO.
In all fairness, Gainesville does need a fairly high level reaction force. Aside from the fact they have a major University with a hugely popular sports program, they also have a full bore nuclear reactor run by precisely *one* person.
