Ah yeah, they don’t want you to turn it off so they make it a little tricky. In the Windows Firewall window, look for a line on the left side that says “Turn Windows Firewall on or off”, and click that. Then click to turn off windows firewall under home or work (private) networks.

Have USB on both machines? Last time I had to do one, I just went over to the local Walgreen’s and bought a SanDisk thumb drive from the display in the photo department. An 8 gig was about 15 bucks back then, but I see 20 dollar 64 gigs advertised now. You don’t need one that’s big enough for everything, just move stuff a chunk at a time.

I will I started when I posted it was working and I will add it up when it is done. it is about a quarter the way through so far.
This is probably a question I should have asked before the transfer started. Are the files that are being transferred to the new machine still going to be on the old machine, I hope?
It shouldn’t take any longer than doing a backup to a network storage device. It could run overnight and be done by morning. Less of a hassle than doing it piecemeal with a flashdrive.

If you are using Windows Easy Transfer, it moves user files. I don’t recall an option for copying with that method. However, you can copy files manually between shared folders over your network if that is a concern. Using the Easy Transfer lets you keep settings for appearance and setup, which is not possible with manually copying data files.

No offense to anyone here, but if you got that transferring wirelessly with that much ease, you are vulnerable. Likewise, if you got that working off this thread you're smart enough to have some basic networking under your belt and do it smartly.
Buy the book (and a crossover cable).
I would actually suggest buying a portable hard drive, copying all your files from the old computer onto that, then copying what you need to the new computer. I’m sure there are files you will never need again, so there’s little reason to clutter up your new computer, but you don’t want to completely lose them.

You can get the same data size for less money if you get a desktop drive with separate power, but the little ones with notebook drives are USB powered and work exactly like flash drives.
Assuming you haven’t filled it up from the old computer, use it to back up your new computer regularly.

Just because it is a wireless network and Easy Transfer is actually easy to use, that doesn’t mean it isn’t secure.
That is actually small. It isn’t like transferring a terabyte.
Really? I had so much free space I assumed it was tiny.
My whole HDD is only 250 gb
