A kid with a compromised immune system should not be in public school anyway, so the exemption seems strange
Well, there are, and that is why if a child gets measles or chickenpox, they stay home from school. It’s also not always obvious that someone is immune compromised either. But that’s why children sick with a contagious disease stay home from school. It may be an annoyance for most, but deadlier for someone who doesn’t have a healthy immune system. Most of this is about hype to get us feeling trusting of the CDC, or get mad at some homeschooled kids. The number of people who voluntarily exempt themselves from actual vaccination is small in comparison to those who aren’t for health reasons. Plus, Petussis vaccines don’t work for all strains.
