Don Rickles?! I’m glad to see he’s still alive.

He really did turn nasty in his old age, didn’t he?

Yes, he did. I think it was at least partially a function of the entire media turning nasty around him. I can't imagine his old boss Johnny Carson cracking filthy jokes about Bristol Palin on his show, for example.

And to be succeeded by... Stephen Colbert (whom I give one year).

How could I forget Larry Bud? I also remember Edwin Newman on the daytime show.

Actually, if I recall, the nasty “joke” was about 13 year old Willow Palin being molested by Yankees player Alex Rodriguez. And even had it been intended for Bristol, it was still disgusting. But by saying Willow, it was the lower than slime in the sewer, and so is he.

Letterman should have been fired on the spot.

It must really burn Tina Fey that Sarah Palin is prettier and smarter.

You are absolutely correct about that. Rodriguez wasn’t real impressed either.

And Terri Garr.

He use to really mess with her.

He actually got her to take a shower in his office on the air.

If he doesn’t have her on the one of the last episodes, then he really is a loser.

And not to beat a dead horse, but I’m just in that mood today and bringing up the whole A-Rod “joke” got me fired up.

Nobody, and I mean NOBODY would ever say that about either of 0bama’s daughters. Because nobody should ever say anything like that about anyone’s young daughters. I have a pretty coarse and earthy sense of humor, but even if Letterman tried that joke about Malia 0bama, I would be horribly offended.

As I said, he should have been fired on the spot. The problem that gets me madder still is that had he said that about Malia 0bama, he would have been. Saying it about Willow Palin is just an “oh well...”

No, I won’t miss that disgusting creep Letterman at all.

He lost his balls after Madonna made a fool of him and he begged, begged, begged, to get Hillary on when she was running for Senate. He probably relied too much on his ultra-lib writers after a while, and the whole thing with Margaret Ray, his stalker, didn’t end well, so he just got to be a miserable sod after a while.

He was irreverent, creative and funny long ago.

He’s way past his sell-by date.

Other than Bill Murray, Don Rickles and Ray Romano, the rest have become completely unwatchable anyway. Haven't tuned in any of the others — or Dave — for years. Since his marital cheating scandal, which came even before the Sarah bashing.

Agreed...At first funny...Now a hateful old, sarcastic liberal.

Another one who went down that road was Garrison Keillor. Used to be so folksy and cute. Too bad, so sad; don't miss you, lad.

He is a bit excruciatingly painful to watch now.

His facial tics alone are like a creaky screendoor slamming in the wind.

Losing out to Leno for the Tonight Show gig...that seems to have blown every circuit in his brain.

I never understood why Carson thought he was so funny or why he should have gotten The Tonight Show after he left in 1992.

The only explanation is that Carson didn't want anyone to outshine him, ever; and pretty much no one has.

Carson's comedic timing was impeccable. He told a joke and the audience either laughed or in rare instances didn't laugh, at which he would make another joke about the joke having bombed. But both Leno and Letterman will tell a joke, and even if the audience laughs, they then proceed to explain the joke. It is so annoying.

Example:

"Did you hear about Joe Jones, dropped dead in the street? Ripped his suit, broke his glasses..."

(Audience laughs! At this point, Carson would have gone on to his next joke, keeping the audience in stitches. But Letterman and Leno step all over the laughs by deconstructing the joke:)

"He was dead." (Audience laughter is fading.) "So did it matter if he broke his glasses? He wouldn't be needing them any more..." (a few stray titters and laughter dies.)

So boring.

“A buck-toothed Howdy Doody with not one iota of funny in him. I am amazed he got so far and for so long.”

Dittos! I wonder the same thing about Baba Wawa and her grating voice.
