“The most common reason that people have a gun is because they have it for home protection,” he says. “Unfortunately, the data indicates that having a gun is associated with both an increased risk of homicide, but even more importantly, an increased risk of suicide. We know that, for example, if there’s a gun in the home, the risk of suicide among adolescents and young adults increases tenfold.”

Yawn. Moron the evils of gun owners and their desire to kill others and themselves in droves. Or not. But, only ten fold? Surely they can create a larger number than that. Hacks.

These guys love to skew numbers, intentionally make things out of context, and write fiction. I’m surprised they’re not Congressmen...

I would say the risk of suicide by gun is probably 200 times as great if there is a gun AND a suicide in the house. These guys are pikers.

How many of these “gun owners” were CRIMINALS BEFORE they were murdered?

Classic non sequitur. Let's see the raw data and then correlate ownership with: 1) family income, 2) sex of head of household, 3) ethnicity, and 4) age distribution. Wonder what that might reveal.

LOGIC FAIL. Classic "post hoc ergo propter hoc" false argument. Maybe they have a gun BECAUSE they face an increased chance of murder.

If you use their illogical arguments, possessing hypodermic syringes increases your chances of contracting diabetes.

So? People who want to commit suicide go out and buy a gun. Therefore, there’s a high degree of correlation between gun ownership and suicide. What’s the big deal?

The home owners who have guns in this country have killed fewer people than Ted Kennedy’s Oldsmobile.

With more & more feral animals running around & with a Just Us department in Washington that looks the other way-—we all need MORE guns & MORE ammo.

If a suicidal teen gets their hands on a kitchen knife, I’m 100% sure they will try to slit their wrists. And I didn’t even have to conduct a poll or anything. Awesome!!!!

The gal at the movie theater sure could have used one — saved herself a trip to the ER.

The statistical sleight-of-hand gun-haters like to use is that places with high gun ownership rates have more “gun deaths.”

What they won’t tell you is that those places have the lowest per capita murder rates.

More guns, less murder.

Bill Whittle’s YouTube video “Number One With a Bullet” illustrates this very succinctly.

Here is a link to it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pELwCqz2JfE

Here are links to the three data sources that he references.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_of_guns_per_capita_by_country

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate#By_country

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_by_murder_rate

Fact is, states and countries with low gun ownership rates lead the nation and world in per capita murder rate.

They also lead the world in violent crime rate.

Gun-controlled Britain has a low homicide rate, but it has the highest violent crime rate in the EU, a violent crime rate that is higher than even South Africa, and much higher than the United States.

The only first-world nation with a higher violent crime rate than Britain is Australia, a nation that also banned and confiscated firearms, stripping its people of their ability to defend themselves from violent criminals.

So if you like high violent crime and murder rates, by all means advocate taking guns away from law-abiding citizens.

This just in! New study shows owning and operating an automobile dramatically increases your chance of dying or being hideously maimed in a car crash.

Gang bangers and drug dealers are being shot every day.The reason isn't because they have guns...it's because they associate with bad people.Study law abiding people who *don't* hang with criminals.

Yo, unknown, show us the math. And not the Common Core math. The actual math.

Including the stats on how many crimes were prevented by a citizen responding to a crime in progress with a gun.

And if there is a FATHER in the home it decreases exponentially. So there!

These studies are pretty much BS.

New York City, where guns are difficult to acquire, supposedly has a very low suicide rate. However, it has a very high "accidental" death rate from falls from high places and drug ODs. In reality, if a medical examiner finds a suicide note or a gun, the death is going to be called a suicide. If there is no suicide note and no gun, the death is more likely to be ruled accidental.

Well, that should be an argument by the fascists to increase gun ownership.
The totalitarian fascists really want the gun owners dead, and according to their data, this is the way to do it.

Gun owners face much higher murder risks

Geez, do these "journalists"... who think they have the big scoop thats going to put the gun industry on its knees... do they ever use spell check?

The headline is obviously backwards and should read:
"Murderers face much higher risk from Gun Owners"
