Sipsey Street Irregulars can now confirm the broad outlines of a story first disclosed two days ago, colleague Mike Vanderboegh reported Sunday from the NRA Annual Meeting in Nashville. Last week, a secret deal involving the National Rifle Association lobbying arm and brokered by politicians of both national political parties was struck in Washington DC that would save the ATF from the political and legal consequences of its own regulatory errors.
In the process, this deal would broaden the language of the 1968 Gun Control Act regarding sporting purposes and allow ATF to extract itself from the potentially catastrophic political damage of enforcing its arbitrary ruling that makes every owner of a pistol grip 12 Gauge shotgun like the Mossberg Cruiser a felon in possession of a destructive device subject to the penalties of the National Firearms Act of 1934 -- currently up to 10 years in federal prison and a quarter million dollar fine, Vanderboegh elaborated.
The crisis for ATF has been precipitated by its own actions, which are at risk of receiving unwelcome judicial scrutiny, sources told Vanderboegh. At some point, unless the Congress gives them the cover by changing the law, they are going to have to explain that in open court, he was told.
The deal to provide that cover has three components. The first, broadening sporting purposes language, will ensure owners of pistol grip shotgun-like firearms dont get caught up in a net of ATFs making, Vanderboegh reports. The second part will credit NRA for arranging that, and the third will involve a concession -- an ammunition import ban on "specialty ammunition," to include tracers, Vanderboegh continues, albeit noting the main objective is knocking a bigger hole in the Constitution by (widening the 'sporting purposes' language)..."

Contrivance by both sides...
Back room deals are not consistent with informed consent of the governed, the source of just power according to the Declaration of Independence.
0 Conceeding anything against these people is to lose it forever.
Ok if they did wrong(Which the ATF did do) why would you (NRA)negotiate with them? Now Common Sense, if the ATF does negotiate, do they admit they were wrong. How is it the ATF is only dealing with the NRA, What about every Individual out here (and other groups on top of that, example Georgia Gun Owners)??? Where I support the NRA I DO (and Did) NOT Give them the Right To Negotiate Rights away... They are to Amplify Our Voices but in no way can sell them out.
How could Our(others groups) Rights be lost in this, should We not still have the ability to hold the Government Accountable and is this not then an admission of Guilt making the burden of Fact much easier for everyone else???
The Constitution DOES NOT MENTION SPORTING. The purpose of private firearms is to take back a government out of control.
.
the second amendment was not written for deer or bear hunting..
it was written to allow the citizens to overthrow a government gone rogue..
with that in mind, any and all arms that our nations military possesses, we not only have a right, but a DUTY to possess and maintain..
this includes cannon, tank, mortar and grenades..
we also have a right to possess aircraft, naval surface and beneath surface vessels and missiles..
now for the a$$hole who asks if this includes nuclear weapons i have but one question..
if a rogue government has taken control of this country, and their only hope of maintaining control was to nuke cities, would they do it???
if your answer is yes, then my answer is yes, we as citizens have not only a right but a duty to possess nuclear weapons..
i await your answers
Maybe instead of the term microagression, the term ‘incremental aggression’ could be used.
Similar to The boiling pot of frogs syndrome.
Since we built and paid for the nukes, I think we do own them. However, possession and ownership are two different things.
Subject, perhaps, to certain zoning restrictions.
Exactly. 2A is the Constitution's Doomsday provision. For it to have its intended effect, there must be no infringement on the ownership and use by private citizens of effective combat arms, not sporting arms.
The NRA cannot make ‘deals’ to expand the meaning of the nonsensical “Sporting use” clause. They can say they won’t sue the ATF or the NRA will not inform their members about any ‘negotiated’ backroom deals.
The ATF could still be sued and humiliated in court over trying to illegally expand beyond the scope of the law by individuals or by other rights group like the Gun Owners of America.
If I do wrong, do I get a backroom deal too?
