Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker wins Charleston GOP straw poll

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker won the Charleston County Republican Party’s straw poll Saturday as the GOP came together to organize ahead of the 2016 election season....

....Saturday’s convention was part of the regular business of the party. The straw poll was loosely conducted with about 240 delegates eligible to take part.

Presidential hopeful Walker was recently in Charleston where he spoke out against unions and in support of Gov. Nikki Haley. He drew 24 votes or about 10 percent of the total.

The next top finishers were: U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, 20 votes; R-Ky., Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Tex., 18 votes; former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, 11 votes; and Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., eight votes. U.S. Sen Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., finished at the bottom with one vote. Straw votes are not considered scientific.

One potential presidential candidate did show up to the gathering, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, who got three votes. He told the group that two of the biggest issues next year will be confronting radical Islam abroad and defending religious liberty at home.

Radical Islam “seeks to destroy everything you believe in,” said Santorum. He has not formally declared he’ll run for president in 2016 but was visiting multiple county convention sites Saturday, including the Berkeley County GOP.....

Pansey Grahamnesty only managed one vote and that was probably a sympathy vote so he wouldn’t be totally embarrassed.

I was somewhat shocked that Lindsey Graham could only get ONE vote.

Graham actually gave a good speech at te NRA Convention yesterday. I wish he were more conservative in his day to day actions in the Senate.

the only reason we re-elected that guy is because there was literally no other choice.

maybe nikki haley will run after her second term is up.

Most RINOs know that occasionally they have to throw a bone to conservatives.

I’m thinking Trey Gowdy. If Cruz doesn’t pick him as running mate...

Lee Bright was a much better alternative.

Isn’t this just a beauty contest? None of this is binding for next year. It’s of interest, but it doesn’t mean much in the long haul.

I think the senate would ruin trey. he should season a bit in the house, then run for governor, and then I think we have a national candidate on our hands.

but the senate just doesn’t seem to suit him. too slow. too sedate. too constipated.

sure. many people from many other states had many opinions on what we should and should not have done.

I recall the hysterical “pack the field” preachers of thought, who insisted that, because ted cruz made a runoff in a packed field, that this was a recipe for success every time, and every place.

we genuinely enjoyed the help. </sarc>

Oh didn’t your choice get number one? I imagine if he or she were, you’d be changing your tune.

My choice came in 2 off the lead so I’m not that motivated by the results either way. What does concern me is that Jeb got any votes.

One way or another this guy will screw things up next year. He either gets the nomination or he tosses his delegates to someone else who will defeat a true Conservative getting the nomination.

This is such a critical election. If a moderate wins on our side, it’s going to be very destructive.

i have to go back to see if Jeb got any votes. lol. I totally forgot about him. I guess I am not worried about him because he doesn’t have a chance in heck of winning.
