“The GOP has scores of racists”: A former Bush official condemns modern Republican orthodoxy
Salon ^ | 04/10/2015 | Manny Otiko

Lawrence Wilkerson is a contradictory figure.

Wilkerson is a career military man, who served as chief of staff for Secretary of State Colin Powell; but he has also voiced reluctance to involve American forces in foreign conflicts, and slammed the Bush administration for its handling of the Iraq War. He is also a lifelong Republican who, far from just criticizing his party, has actually gone on the warpath against it at times.

When Powell was attacked by conservatives in 2012 for endorsing Barack Obama for reelection — Mitt Romney surrogate John Sununu famously suggested that the endorsement was motivated by race — Wilkerson sprung to the defense of his former boss, saying that the Republican Party was “full of racists.”

Wilkerson stands by those assertions. In a recent conversation with Salon, the retired U.S. Army colonel renewed his criticism of the GOP and the Bush administration. He also addressed recent saber rattling by Republicans on the issue of Iran. The following interview has been lightly edited.

Q: You have been very critical of the Republican Party. Why do you stay?

A: There are sane and sober people in the Republican Party. The public persona of the Republican Party has changed since the days of Abraham Lincoln and Dwight Eisenhower.

Q: In the past you have said the Republican Party is full of racists. Do you stand by that and aren’t you afraid of a backlash?

A: I’m not afraid of a backlash. The GOP has scores of racists. Under Richard Nixon’s blessing, the GOP took advantage of disgruntled Democrats in the South. They are still there and their children are there. This is very much known in our party. This was a conscious strategy.

The definition of racist has been twisted so much as to have no meaning other than to spur even more resentment in the black community. According to “white privilege” all you need to be a vile racist now is white skin. How is that different from the KKK hanging the first available man with black skin after a confrontation or suspected crime?

If you are white or Asian or non black Hispanic, you are racist. There is an old saying about pointing out a sliver in your opponent’s while ignoring the timber in your own. Rioting, beating old men and young women, looting, murdering each other in large numbers are all the white mans’ fault and to be forgiven as understandable and deserved where whites are the victim.

Now Rand Paul is going to throw out the laws that disproportionately affect blacks. I guess he’ll be vacating murder convictions if the accused is black.

Rant over.

"I helped him. It was everyone in the administration. [The information] was provided by 16 U.S. intelligence agencies and CIA director George Tenet. The Russians, French and British spy agencies all provided the same evidence. It was a political and intelligence failure. The politicians took advantage of that. They took the intelligence and cherry-picked it, reinforcing the idea that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction."

This senile old crud should just shut up. First, he says that all the intelligence was consistent - including that from foreign governments - and then he says it was "cherry-picked."

This should be emphasized for those that hadn't read even the excerpt:

The GOP has scores of racists. Under Richard Nixon’s blessing, the GOP took advantage of disgruntled Democrats in the South. They [Those Democrats] are still there and their children are there. This is very much known in our party. This was a conscious strategy.

“Mitt Romney surrogate John Sununu famously suggested that the endorsement was motivated by race “

Actually, Powell himself alluded to the racial importance of his vote..In other words, he said it.

That about says it with Colin Powell. If you aren’t smart enough to not have your picture taken with Screwy Louey, you aren’t very smart/politically astute. Or you have completely unacceptable politics. Either way, it isn’t good.

While that's possible, it was the democrat fascist party that instituted the welfare plantation system, keeps it well funded, and keeps da’ boyz in line by ostracizing anyone who doesn't stay on the democrat welfare plantation.

Anyone who doubts that fact need only look at Detroit.

Scores? Not hundreds. Let's say the author picked scores because he couldn't get to two hundred so there are 180 racists in the GOP. So about 0.0002%. Ooooooooooo!

These anti-freedom liberals really need to get a new diatribe. This old song and dance was old 10 years ago let alone now.

Heck, if anything, the liberals have proven themselves to be the racists on every level while conservatives do their (our) level best to get along with everyone who believes in America and the American way.

Don’t want to assimilate? Fine. America; love it or leave it. It isn’t just a bumper sticker anymore.

I don’t give a flying rat’s dingleberries what color someone’s skin happens to be or where their daddy came from. I hold everyone to the same standard. I am the kind of person that Democrats like to pretend is racist.

Republican orthodoxy? If you have no ideals, you can have no orthodoxy.
