Even in Europe, you can’t just drive to every battlefield if war breaks out, being air transportable is important, so is being light.
What is you problem with having this capability?

You seem to be the ONLY ONE that has realized this. Most of the others on THIS SITE think that the Polish Calvary, will, somehow, defeat the latest Russian tanks - as they are CONVINCED that other countries in NATO can put up a credible defense against the newly-modernized Russian military.
Russia is no match for NATO today.

We tried it with Sheridan M551 which I would have liked to have seen succeed. Never tried one, just some seat time in M1A1.

You better ask how many of these 300 tanks are in working condition.
For comparison, as for last year Luftwaffe had 8 airworthy fighters out of already tiny fleet of 109 jets. They have only 7 of 67 CH-53 choppers and 21 out of 57 C-160 transport aircraft flyable.
The flyable aircraft are kept in the air by removing parts from the rest of the fleet.
That’s how a military of European leading nation looks like.
The rest of continental European military is even in more pathetic state, with the exception of France.
The entire German Army is ~ 6 Brigades, i.e. about only 2x the size of what a Division sized US post has. It is criminal and I hope they do not have to pay the blood price for their folly.
