A.) the taxpayers aren't really bailing anyone out anymore. The taxpayers grandchildren are. maybe.

B.) Everyone else had to pay off their student loans, So does Lindley. Some of us even had to join the military to pay for school. so **** her.

C.) This is a recipe for disaster. too many people abuse the student loan system as it is.

I paid my way through university with zero student loan debt. I never took out a loan to pay for it.

I was the opposite. I made the choice to take out loans, and I paid them off through hard work and great sacrifice.

So some terdlet whining that her $90,000 course of study in the Ancient Poetry of Basketweaving Lesbians isn't paying off does not sway me. You chose the major, signed the loan papers, so pay up.

Seems like if one has a Mater’s in Peace and Conflict Resolution they’d know how to work through this conflict.

Same with me. Until now, people don’t believe me when i tell them I had zero debt almost a year after graduation. It pays when your after school odd cash jobs were driving escorts to their customers and being a strip club DJ, while avoiding your univ professors who go to the same places..

Funny how NOBODY in the media talks about that in the Era of Baraq.

I’m old enough to remember when the “deficit” was actually a campaign issue.

I think I’ll go back to college and major in something really useful. Like...Gender Studies.

Issuing a student loan for the purpose of obtaining a degree in “Liberal Studies” should be considered a form of fiduciary irresponsibility.

Turn what was arguably some of the best Universities in the world into progressive producing liberal factories. Now they want us to pay for it.

A Masters in “Peace and Conflict Resolution”

Apparently, there isn’t a strong demand for that in Montana.

Political reality is that some bailout is inevitable. A partial bailout in return for getting the government out of the loan business completely would be a bargain.

Logical Seven Point solution to the student loan crisis:

  1. Write off 25%. This is a necessary concession to the debtors who, in many cases, were duped into taking out loans they couldn't afford.
  2. Return 75% to the institutions of origin for collection.
  3. Institutes get to keep 5% of the 75% for their trouble but must remit the 70% back to the government.
  4. They are free to hold up transcripts, cancel degrees and employ all the other measures they did to collect against the debtors as when they were students.
  5. If the institutions still cannot pay back the governement within the normal loan times, the government is free to attach their endowments, real estate and other assets.
  6. Government gets completely out of the loan business and encourages the institutions to line up their own lenders. If a tiny college like Hillsdale (Michigan) can do it, then there is no reason anyone else can't do the same.

Yes, the taxpayer takes a 30% hit up front to liquidate this crisis, but that is far better than continuing to grow this monster.

“To set the story up, the NPR reporter focused on the plight of Clementine Lindley, who recalls how after graduating she had to “decide whether to pay rent, buy food or make her student loan payments” because her debt was so massive. “

If I remember correctly, the maximum payments are 10% of your income.

“I won’t hire anyone who gets bailed out.”

Bailed out, no. They should be allowed to declare bankruptcy under supervision of the court if they are indeed bankrupt.

Chances are you wouldn’t hire them anyway, but a stupid kid with stupid parents who let them borrow 100k from unscrupulous lenders and the universally unscrupulous universities and only get a History degree. Bankruptcy should be an option.

I believe this even though I paid through the nose sending my kids to college so they’d have no debt.

She might want to hop on a plane heading for Yemen-—they could probably use her there.

“A Masters in “Peace and Conflict Resolution”????”

And from the University of Ulster, no less. Like they know anything about that subject in N. Ireland.

Why should they bail out those in need of social security. Education and ss are both ponzu scemes that need to die

So her ‘peace and conflict resolution’ graduate degree didn’t help her on her own conflict?

She shouldn’t have gotten the degree then.

I love the idea of making colleges responsible for the defaulted student loan debts of their failed students. Love it. Love it. Love it.
