Good theory, but I believe the timing of events is out of phase. Air pollution in the US reached its peak in the '60s. This prompted the clean air acts of 1963 and 1970. During this time we were experiencing COOLING. As the changes in vehicles and stationary sources started became implemented, and the soot decreased, the warming started. The computer controlled automobile combustion eliminated soot by running the engine at the perfect air/fuel ratio well before warming reached its peak. Now that China and India are pouring out far more soot and air pollution than the US ever did, there has been no warming.
