Exclusive–Inside Ted Cruz’s Campaign HQ: How Texas Firebrand Plans to Win by Breaking All the Rules
Breitbart's Big Government ^ | April 6, 2015 | Matthew Boyle

HOUSTON, Texas — About six or seven hundred hardcore conservatives gathered outside the new Houston campaign headquarters for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) last Tuesday, an event at which he showed off his presidential prospects as the first declared candidate for 2016.

Cruz, the true Washington outsider, has had a hugely successful first two weeks as the first declared candidate for the White House—raising millions of dollars, hiring key staff, and building a formidable operation, all while sticking true to his aggressive conservatism. Cruz has shaken up Washington, the political class, and the media establishment by essentially proving since his announcement that contrary to inside-the-beltway elitist belief, he is in fact a very viable candidate for president of the United States.

“I think we are certainly trying to do everything possible to energize and mobilize the grassroots, to energize and mobilize millions of courageous conservatives,” Cruz said in an interview with Breitbart News.

“The greatest trick the left has ever played is to convince the world that America doesn’t share our values,” Cruz added. “America remains a fundamentally center-right country with Judeo-Christian values. And these are common sense principles that America was built upon, and just like in 1980 it took millions of men and women across this country to come together and become the Reagan Revolution. Likewise, today, it will take a similar army of courageous conservatives to result in the same sort of fundamental change we saw in 1980. Our nation is in crisis and the Washington elites cannot solve this problem. It can only come from the American people. That is where our focus and energy is directed, and I’m incredibly encouraged by the enthusiasm we’re seeing right now.”

The Wall Street Journal reported Cruz’s team has already raised about $4 million in its first two weeks....

Why was candidate Obama never referred to as a firebrand? The man was a community agitator for Pete’s sake!

Firebrand - a person who is passionate about a particular cause, typically inciting change and taking radical action.
“a political firebrand”
synonyms: radical, revolutionary, agitator, rabble-rouser, incendiary, subversive, troublemaker

Are Hillary or Elizabeth Warren ever described as “hardcore” progressives?

I expect this from the mainstream media. But the ostensibly Conservative media should know better. These words have meanings and need to be chosen wisely.

JMHO

The phrases like “hardcore conservatives” and “Firebrand” in this “Breitbart” piece come off like an MSM hit piece...interesting.

Since Ted Cruz has very near unanimous support here at good old FR, it seem appropriate for Jim to offer up our services in support of the Cruz campaign.

I’m not sure exactly what we would do but the expertise that exists within the membership of Free Republic is really something to behold. We’ve all seen it in action. There is some real brainpower at work here and surely we should be able to bring it to bear on the most important election of our lifetimes.

Jim: contact Ted Cruz and tell him we are ready.

About time, too. Washington, DC has turned into the Panem from The Hunger Games and the American electorate need to tell them they need to serve US, not live "high on the hog."

The Republican elites don’t like Firebrands. They don’t like real orators, or even good stump speakers like Palin. They like mumblers like Bush, Dole, Bush, McCain and Romney, the kind who do their talking to small groups of donors.

I love the courage of TC. I am concerned about his electability. I would vote Bush if it meant beating HRC. But oh how I would love to see President Cruz!

I agree. I just don’t see Cruz as a “firebrand” or a “hardcore” anything. Those words carry with them negative connotations and are chosen and used for a reason. The radical left is projecting who they really are onto their opponents. There is nothing radical about Liberty or Conservatism, except in the minds of the progressives, socialists, and big government types.

Cruz is a principled Conservative who believes and upholds the Constitution and the Rule of Law. And a Christian, which is quite a refreshing change from the last few election cycles. This nation has suffered greatly by electing folks without any moral compass.

One of the most annoying phrases out there. What does it mean that “America is a center-right country” other than that one’s measure of America leans left? If the “center of America” is to the “right”, what kind of scale is being used?

Not only does the phrase betray the bias of those who utter it, but it is fundamentally meaningless.
