The worst mistake Reagan ever made was picking a Bush for a VP.
The more I learn the more I come to understand that the Bushes are snakes in the grass.
That would have been sweet, but the damage was done in 1980. I remember the sturm und drang that occurred that year. The RINO Powers-that-be, believe it or not, actually wanted Ford for Veep ("Co-President") and pushed hard for it, but Reagan justifiably rejected it.
GHW Bush was drowning his sorrows in a bar downstairs when someone came running to find him. They'd reached a compromise, the aide told him, and Reagan had relented. The shotgun wedding was accomplished.
