Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” Gov. Jerry Brown (D-CA) said Californians will face heavy fines for taking long showers.
Brown said, “This executive order is done under emergency power. It has the force of law. Very unusual. It’s requiring action and changes in behavior from the Oregon border all the way to the Mexican border. It affects lawns. It affects people’s — how long they stay in the shower. How businesses use water.”
Brown said to enforce his order, “Each water district that actually delivers waters — water to homes and businesses, they carry it out. We have a state water board that overseas the relationships with the districts. Hundreds of them. If they don’t comply, people can be fined $500 a day. Districts can go to court to get a cease and desist order. The enforcement mechanism is powerful. In a drought of this magnitude, you have to change that behavior and you have to change it substantially.”

With the serious water problems they are having now and in the past, why do they want almost unlimited immigration and
a water using public works project-high speed rail?
Long defined by whom?
He is right of course, the drought is becoming very serious, and if California is to survive it, it will have to be taken very seriously, and one way or another,water needs to be rationed. I suspect though that those California liberals will will derive far more enjoyment from exercising this draconian but necessary power than they should!

So they should give bonuses to those that do not shower.
Water is just like any other commodity, if you price it below market clearing levels, you will have shortages.
If you allow market prices, shortages disappear. When you have market prices, incentive is provided for development of new sources of water and the price acts as a disciplinary force against “waste.”
Most officials in government jurisdictions through out the globe fail to get this and will attempt to impose rationing when their below market price schemes on various commodities result in major shortages.

Not all showers have the same water flow rate.
Snail darters have more rights than humans.
In the Navy they are called taking a “Hollywood” shower. Ironic.
Are there going to be bureaucrats standing in every one’s bathroom timing their shower?
Whatever you do Jerry, don’t build a desalination plant or anything.
All the more reason I could never live in California, even though my wife is from beautiful Monterey.
So is someone supposed to watch me in the shower now?
