Greg Ballard, the Republican mayor of Indianapolis, Indiana's largest city, has come out against a controversial religious freedom act signed into law last week by the state’s Republican governor, the Indianapolis Star reports.

In a press conference Monday, Ballard announced that he had issued an executive order that "no vendor, contractor, grant recipient or anyone receiving public funds or benefits of any kind shall discriminate on the basis of...sexual orientation [or] gender identity."

Must be nice to ignore laws you don’t like. Can we do that with Obamacare?

Wonder how he would feel about a boycott of the Indy 500 and Brickyard 400.

Throw the son of a bitch in jail...done. Unlike Obozo’s view of law and the Constitution, the State of Indiana needs to enforce its laws and if this clown makes a statement like that, he needs to cool off in jail.

I don’t see how the Mayor’s announcement conflicts in any way with the RFRA. Following the order to a Tee would not be “ignoring” the act.

Yeah. State troopers against city police. ZThat’s going to be fun. Bigger gov’t over local gov’t. Hmmm. I wonder who will win.

If the Repub party at large withers and goes wobbly and refuses to stand ground and fight on such a simple fundamental issue as religious freedom then they are destined for Whig status.

All the law does is prevent gay mafia individuals and groups from shopping for individuals, businesses and other groups to break to the government saddle by forcing them to provide wedding services, pay for sex change therapy under their health plans and the like.

It isn't about equal rights, it is about special rights. If sexual deviants need to have someone celebrate their gay wedding, they can simply avoid the service providers who don't. If they need to have their health care plan provide sex change operations, they can avoid taking jobs with Hobby Lobby, Chick-fil-A or other such relative handful of businesses which don't provide this type of coverage.

But that's not good enough for them. They want all of those who follow the God of Israel to follow their God of government force.

How do you ignore it?

Do you FORCE every baker in town to service gay weddings by requiring them to post a sign saying: WE SERVE GAY WEDDINGS?

How does ignoring this law work?

Taking a page out of Obama’s book, this mayor seems to think that the executive can override the legislature. I would suggest a remedial course in basic government, in which it is clearly pointed out that EXECUTIVE is rooted in “execute,” which means “carry out,” not “create.”

Well, there is good reason for this: the National Football League.

Remember, the NFL Combine is held there every year in late February at Lucas Oil Stadium, and given the success of Super Bowl XLVI, the will be a serious bid to hold another Super Bowl there soon. As such, if the NFL league offices say they will move the NFL Combine out of Indiana and will no longer accept bids to play the Super Bowl in Indianapolis, the public relations and financial impact would be so gigantic that the law would be rescinded or amended in a literal blink of an eye.

Where do mayoral “executive order” powers come from?

If artists (photographers, cake makers, florists, etc.) are not permitted to turn down work from parties they disagree with, does this mean that entertainers won’t have right of refusal in the 2016 election for their songs to be played at campaign rallies?

really? we can now pick and choose which laws we want to follow?

of course, it’s tough to call something the ‘law of the land’ when you don’t have to obey it. in that case, it’s more like the ‘general guiding principal we’d like to sometimes follow when it suits us’

i say the state cops should arrest the mayor for sedition (hehehe)

that would be the exact same analogy.

the customer wants to use the product/service and is willing to pay. does the producer of the service have the right to say no?

according to CO and WA state, the answer is no if the customer is a homo

Why not?
After all, the tanning tax discriminates against white people.

Think about it.
