Apple CEO Tim Cook on Indiana Bill: 'There's something very dangerous happening' in America
Business Inisder via Washington Post ^ | 03/29/2015 | Tim Cook

Posted on 03/30/2015 8:07:42 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

There's something very dangerous happening in states across the country.

A wave of legislation, introduced in more than two dozen states, would allow people to discriminate against their neighbors. Some, such as the bill enacted in Indiana last week that drew a national outcry and one passed in Arkansas, say individuals can cite their personal religious beliefs to refuse service to a customer or resist a state nondiscrimination law.

Others are more transparent in their effort to discriminate. Legislation being considered in Texas would strip the salaries and pensions of clerks who issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples — even if the Supreme Court strikes down Texas' marriage ban later this year. In total, there are nearly 100 bills designed to enshrine discrimination in state law.

These bills rationalize injustice by pretending to defend something many of us hold dear. They go against the very principles our nation was founded on, and they have the potential to undo decades of progress toward greater equality.

America's business community recognized a long time ago that discrimination, in all its forms, is bad for business. At Apple, we are in business to empower and enrich our customers' lives. We strive to do business in a way that is just and fair.

That's why, on behalf of Apple, I'm standing up to oppose this new wave of legislation — wherever it emerges. I'm writing in the hopes that many more will join this movement. From North Carolina to Nevada, these bills under consideration truly will hurt jobs, growth and the economic vibrancy of parts of the country where a 21st-century economy was once welcomed with open arms.

By Timmy’s logic, I should be able to walk into any family-owned bakery and demand that they produce for me a cake with decorations depicting male (or female) sex organs, basically edible pornography, even though they may have underage employees working there.

In addition to any religious considerations, they want to be able to force people to violate anti-pornography laws.

If they refuse, Timmy thinks I should be able to sue the bakery and basically put them out of business.

Sorry, Timmy, that attitude doesn’t cut the cake, so to speak.

If anyone doubts my concern, do an image search for “penis cake”, but be warned...

"when did...?"

This is the inevitable result of unrestrained liberalism. Undoubtedly, countless thousands of Christian merchants have provided services over the decades for people they knew were homosexuals.

But now we're in an age where people must not only tolerate perverse behavior, they must enthusiastically approve. This will not end well.

Yes, I agree. Homosexuals and their allies are getting into power and trying to force their sickness down the throats of normal people.

But this is just what they do. “

I knew this little faggot would stir up trouble, and Apple is the wealthiest corporation in the world.

This is a distraction, another manufactured crisis to break the focus on real issues.

And in regards to that, I buy the BEST PRODUCTS AROUND, no matter whether it’s a Muslim or Atheist or Mormon or Catholic or Jesus-hater cult ... I just get the best products for my own needs!

I do my politics at the ballot box, my buying on the free enterprise system and marketplace, and I support organizations with MONEY FOR NOTHING (namely no product or goods in exchange) if I think they deserve support and of of themselves!

It’s bad enough that the government no longer passes laws that comport with the Biblical Law the country was founded upon.

It's really really bad.

The weakness of what we generally know as conservatism is due to a weakness of human relationship with God.

I think it is no accident that an attempt to put freedom of association with God in high honor (a small clause of universal applicability in the Indiana law may be what is drawing all this concentrated furor) is getting such concerted attack. The devil is behind this, not just figuratively. That’s the bad news. But God is interested in the battle. That’s the good news.

And the battle will only be won by the actual power of God. I see things happening today that suggest such a victory is very possible. Will it be permanent on the mortal coil? No, and the bible tells us so. But it may have quite an impact while it does last. I hope that none of us are satisfied with mere earthly life. Heavenly life is the Lion of Judah’s pajamas, so to speak.

I’ll keep right on buying Apple Products, because I buy the BEST PRODUCT AROUND! I do my politics at the ballot box and my buying in the marketplace and free enterprise system, based on who makes the best for what I want!

See my Post #57 for organizations you can SUPPORT with MONEY FOR NOTHING ... namely money for no products and no services. This is how you can support organizations ... give them MONEY FOR NOTHING!

What is permissible (e.g. buying meat at an idol temple) is not necessarily the most laudable.

I think you do need to go with the laws of the land when engaging in commerce. I think this law addresses the wrong end of the problem and blurring that line is what will destroy religious liberty.

The problem is a lack of privacy and a lack of decorum. It is wrong to push people beyond the addage that “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all”. This is a natural right which should probably be expanded upon from the concept of unlawful search and seizure to combat political correctness.

This law buys right into the fallacy instead of addressing a natural duty to not smear your bits all over public discourse.

The best... what makes you so sure. Maybe these people are about to draw God’s judgment and it will be another failed enterprise soon.

It’s a band aid, not a fix all, and not touted as a fix all. But the brouhaha against it is quite illuminating as to the character of the source of the brouhaha.

In Tim Cook’s case, the most dangerous thing happening to him is going on in his bedroom, or at the public restroom glory hole.

How very noble of you.

Hey look! I have a new product. I think you will like it. Try it and you’ll agree it is the best of its kind. And it’s cheap too. It meets all the pre-requisites you identified.

Only one little concern. No big deal, really. I call my product “Star Traveler is a troll”. All proceeds go to getting you zotted, fired, evicted, incarcerated and dumped in Afghanistan.

But why should you care, since it one of the “BEST PRODUCTS AROUND, no matter whether it’s a Muslim or Atheist or Mormon or Catholic or Jesus-hater cult ... I just get the best products for my own needs!”

You’re right, this won’t end well at all if it continues.
