Boy Got a Haircut Like His Military Step-Brother, School Suspended Him
Reason ^ | Mar. 27, 2015 | Robby Soave

There is nothing quite like the petty despotism of the public school system. A boy from McMinnville, Tennessee, was suspended after coming to Bobby Ray Memorial Elementary School with a haircut deemed inappropriate by the principal. It was a "high and tight" military-style haircut that the boy had requested so that he would look more like his step-brother, an active-duty soldier.

The principal did not budge, leaving the boy's mother no choice but to shave his head so that he could come back to school.

>>Any time a person says, “there should be a law (or rule)”, they need to get slapped in the face. If they try to form an HOA to “improve property values”, their house should be burned to the ground and then you drive them to the state line and tell them to never come back.<<

I’m pretty sure there’s a law against doing that to them in most states, so are you saying that one should go too then? That would really get interesting. I think we call it anarchy.

Sorry, I’m as upset with that principal’s lack of common sense as most, but half of the people commenting seem to be in some sort of “hang ‘em all high” mood today and I resist that sort of nonsense just as I resist the principal’s nonsense. Sauce for the goose and all.

I saw this on the news. It’s pretty damn disgusting. IMHO, the time has come for us to start “piss testing” ALL teachers and school officials for drug usage on a daily basis. They should also have to undergo psychiatric evaluations once a year. If these clowns were pilots, they’d be flying people into the sides of mountains.

Back in the late 50s and early 60s, half the kids in school had this haircut.

I can’t believe this from a school named after a posthumous Medal of Honor recipient. Whoever made this decision and enforced it should lose their job.
Bobby Ray Memorial Elementary is a K-5 school located in McMinnville, TN.

DAVID ROBERT RAY, Hospital Corpsman Second Class, United States Navy
Citation: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving as a HM2 with Battery D, 2d Battalion, at Phu Loc 6, near An Hoa. During the early morning hours, an estimated battalion_sized enemy force launched a determined assault against the battery’s position, and succeeded in effecting a penetration of the barbed_wire perimeter. The initial burst of enemy fire caused numerous casualties among the Marines who had immediately manned their howitzers during the rocket and mortar attack. Undaunted by the intense hostile fire, HM2 Ray moved from parapet to parapet, rendering emergency medical treatment to the wounded. Although seriously wounded himself while administering first aid to a Marine casualty, he refused medical aid and continued his lifesaving efforts. While he was bandaging and attempting to comfort another wounded Marine, HM2 Ray was forced to battle 2 enemy soldiers who attacked his position, personally killing 1 and wounding the other. Rapidly losing his strength as a result of his severe wounds, he nonetheless managed to move through the hail of enemy fire to other casualties. Once again, he was faced with the intense fire of oncoming enemy troops and, despite the grave personal danger and insurmountable odds, succeeded in treating the wounded and holding off the enemy until he ran out of ammunition, at which time he sustained fatal wounds. HM2 Ray’s final act of heroism was to protect the patient he was treating. He threw himself upon the wounded Marine, thus saving the man’s life when an enemy grenade exploded nearby. By his determined and persevering actions, courageous spirit, and selfless devotion to the welfare of his Marine comrades, HM2 Ray served to inspire the men of Battery D to heroic efforts in defeating the enemy. His conduct throughout was in keeping with the finest traditions of the U.S. Naval Service.

The entire middle east is basically imploding. Obama is putting the final touches on a treaty that will allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons. Republicans have mostly reneged on their promises to repeal Obamacare. In thirty years the national debt has gone from 1 trillion to over 14 trillion dollars, doubling in just the time Obama has been in office. And we are wasting our time worrying about whether kids at an elementary school in a conservative part of Tennessee should be allowed to come to school with goofy looking haircuts? I think that the lack of common sense is spread far and wide.

So, if we resist turning a gazillion laws and rules into a gazillion and one laws and rules, then it will be anarchy? I’m not sure you understand what anarchy is.

It’s not about the haircut at all. It’s about the principal being a control freak. The reason a lot of people go into the education business is because they can’t handle normal peer relationships. They love to push other people around and children are an easy target.

Principal = martinet.

Amazing.

I got sent home from school in about 1965 because my hair touched my collar, in violation of the rules. Dad took me out and had the barber give me a “Butch”. The two inches or so above my ears was done with a straight razor.

How times change.

I’ve never worn that haircut, but it’s none of the school’s damned business. Who would have thought this would happen in Tennessee.

Otherwise, another reason to homeschool, obviously.

Geez, from one overstatement to the next. No, he shouldn’t lose his job over this.

Nonsense! The woman has already proven she is an idiot. She shouldn't be responsible for anything more critical than when to supersize the fries. She certainly shouldn't be central to the training of our schoolchildren with an outlook like this.

Hey kid, would you like to paint an American Flag on the top of your head where the hair used to be, and then go back to school that way?

Ask your parents, and I’ll gladly donate the red, white and blue markers, or whatever else is needed to give you a temporary high and tight headtop temporary tattoo of old glory!

That would be my suggestion as an act of protest and civil disobedience against the deranged, petty tyrant that’s running that school.
