This post is weird. Literally, its a narrative of Angelina Jolie’s ovaries.
There’s got to be a better discussion topic.

Women have been having propylactic surgeries with a strong family history of breast and ovarian cancers since before gene mutations were discovered, and well before we ever heard of Angelina Jolie. The death rates for ovarian cancer are stunning, and some forms of hereditary breast cancer have a very poor prognosis.

Not to wholly defend Angelina Jolie because I think she has made some rather questionable choices in her private life, but a womans or man’s health and the decisions they make about their own bodies are personal. This surgeon is a snide, condescending, one size fits all fool. And he doesnt know half of what he thinks he does about gonads and hormones, either. He needs to leave that specialty of medicine to the physicians who understand it.

OK. I have problems too, very serious ones, do you want to hear about them? I didn't think so, nor do I have a need to tell you. There is a difference between humility and begging for adulation. You be the judge.

Taking a wild guess that the author didn't watch his mother suffer through years of battling breast cancer before succumbing to ovarian cancer at the age of 56. Perhaps the author had a more endearing relationship with his grandmother because she did not die of ovarian cancer at the age of 45. Instead, he harps because a woman wants to improve her odds of watching and participating as her own children grow into adults.
This opinion article is warped.

Another note added in proof to the proposition that there is nothing so stupid that you can't find it somewhere on the Internet.

This is just as bad as the The Vagina Monologues. Next we will hear about Angelina's walk down the Santa Monica Pier to catch the Mother Ship. Bon voyage if she does.

I know several people who have had prophylactic mastectomies just because she did, and while I feel she should certainly do what is right for her and her family, I think making that decision should not be based on what a celebrity does.

Women aren’t running to the surgeon’s office to get pointless but life-changing procedures simply because Jolie made hard decisions about her own health.
As a woman who has had a cancer scare and one whose best friend had cancer and opted to remove the other breast with precancerous cells, I’m disgusted at the sneering contempt some people have about Jolie’s decision.
She made the best choice for her own peace of mind using the best medical advice she could afford. This is hardly a whim.

Jollie actually had a small benign tumor on one ovary. I understand that such tumors do no become cancerous later; however the types of conditions that are favorable for the development and growth of benign tumors are also favorable for cancerous tumors.
Additionally while the CA-125 blood test (a blood test that measures the amount of the protein CA-125 in the blood, and is used to monitor ovarian cancer) a test that she has every year because of her elevated risk, was normal, her doctor told her There are a number of inflammatory markers that are elevated, and taken together they could be a sign of early cancer. and additionally that the CA-125 test has a 50 to 75 percent chance of missing ovarian cancer at early stages.
