Unusually, Lubitz’s file with the German Civil Aviation Authority had been ‘flagged’ with the warning that he needed regular psychological assessment before being allowed to continue to fly.
How does that get past the airline?

Am I to believe that a pilot of large passenger planes told his girlfriend he was going to commit an act so heinous that he'd always be remembered and she couldn't figure out what category of mischief he might be contemplating?

I don't know what the real truth is here, but I don't think the story being pushed is that truth.

I tried MS Flight Simulator at home while I was training for my licence and got bored with it. Without the tactile feedback, the noise and talking on the radio it’s both boring and useless.

A muslim named Lubitz. Who’d have ever thunk it? You just can’t judge a man by his surname anymore. I mean, hell, there’s a guy in the white house with the muslim Arabic name Hussein who’s a Christian.

I’m betting the journo was looking for a big story and the woman told him exactly what he wanted to hear.

If he could have made it to a nuclear plant in France his demonic act would go down in History, as perhaps hundreds of thousands would have been dead, eventually. But as it is, this devil-driven convert to the devil’s religion will be forgotten by all except the families of those he murdered.

I imagine this is going to end up costing the airline and their insurers about $2 Billion U.S.

It makes no sense to me that a doctor who would have written him “sick notes” wouldn't have called his employer. Assuming his mental state triggered the note, should it have been left for the sick person to notify his employer?

The girlfriend did not accept the gift of the car to make up. She refused the car:
